10 Thoughts on Oklahoma State's 27-7 Victory against UT-Martin

On the QBs, the running game and more.

I can see why Gundy couldn’t choose between the QBs (but also why he ultimately chose Hauss). I liked the looks of both. Hopefully Hauss isn’t bad, because we don’t have the depth at QB. Flores looked like he had more wheels that I thought, but I was glad to see him not keep it even though the announcers were wanting him to…we couldn’t risk another QB injury during this game.

if Fields plays up to expectations we might be able to piece together a decent season.

The Tulsa news highlights mentioned a broken foot, out for the year for Hauss last night. Haven’t heard anything else? Anyone know?

5 weeks out for Hauss…that’s not catastrophic.

And I’m still confident with Zane…

“I’ll take a 65% completion percentage and no picks and hope he builds on that moving forward.” Very true!

So…climb ALL on The Zane Train!!

GO POKES!!

  1. OL sucks
  2. Coaching is old and outdated (we got outcoached)
  3. Running game wasn’t good
  4. Play calling sucked
  5. Defense wasn’t too bad
  6. It’s an FCS
  7. Hejny is the guy
  8. At least the Quarterbacks aren’t statues
  9. Gundy hasn’t learned anything new
  10. Excuses after the game

Okay, let’s cancel the season and convene a committee of one to decide on the future existence of our football program.

I agree :index_pointing_up:. Win the conference within the next three years or just be done with it :+1:.

Breakout the Choo Choo highlights for Flores to study (probably closest oSu comparison to Flores) and run that offense - both receivers and running backs feasted. And quit playing scared on offense!

Man - this may be the dumbest list I’ve ever seen. 5, 6, and 8 are the only items that make ANY sense. I may have to re-issue the Worst Comment Ever award… #9?? Are you aware of what’s happened over the offseason? Let me explain this like you’re a 6 year-old. See, we HAD a bunch of other coaches and players, THEN, Gundy fired almost the whole staff and used this thing called the “portal” to bring in MANY new guys. So, a lot of people would say he learned a whole lot. YOU might not…but then, you’re you…

I have several real concerns following Thursday’s game:

  1. We still can’t zone block (just like each of the past 2 years) and yet its still the basis of our entire running scheme.

  2. Other than the removal of the RPO game (likely due to having rookie qbs), it could be argued that we’re running the exact same offense we ran last year, just with a more mobile QB.

  3. But my biggest concern was that against an FCS opponent, we had only 2 players who looked bigger, stronger, and faster on the field than the opposition. Gregory and Hejny, and one of them is injured for the next several weeks.

Let me explain this to you since reason and logic don’t seem to hit very hard with you. Gundy hasn’t won the conference in 13+ years. Other similar programs like K State and Baylor have rebuilt (multiple times) and actually won it twice or more since 2012. They didn’t have to keep sticking with the SAME COACH to make it happen.

In fact, I would venture to say you guys IGNORE the most common denominator in the football program. The man that will find ways to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory when a championship is on the line. Gundy still didn’t learn anything because he forced himself into this position in the first place.

Any coach that’s serious about winning his own conference will find a proven D1 coordinator somewhere in the P4 or G5, and not go hire a D2 guy that has no clue what he’s doing. Any coach that’s serious about his offense will not hold onto a guy that averaged 15 ppg his last six games of 2022, and then wait for him to figure out how to score a touchdown in the first half, or adjust his offense when the season is halfway over.

Any coach that’s serious about recruiting and trying to have coaches that can instill discipline and build rapport with the players isn’t going to go hire 60 year old, worn out, and tired coaches that still think it’s 2005. It’s not a knock against Meacham or Grantham. They just haven’t proven anything here yet, and Thursday night didn’t exactly do them any justice (except MAYBE Grantham). Maybe the prove me otherwise :man_shrugging:.

Gundy, more often than not, thinks he’s smarter than everyone in the room. He’s the kind of person that will hang himself and be forced to apologize later. He’s the guy that trashes his fan base for his failures. The guy has ONE conference crown in 20 years, and then says “we have a logo too” followed up with a 20-19 conference record since 2022. The only way Gundy redeems himself is by hiring people that are smarter than him (Monken and Knowles). Outside of that, if left in charge he ends up being in his own way and will likely be the next Gary Patterson before hoisting another conference crown above his head.

I wish more than anything I would be wrong. However, I don’t think I will be :+1:.

Trent Howland would have made a big difference coach just didn’t put him out there. Until they do the run game will be crap

…sorry…I got bored after the K-State and Baylor comps. You have WAY too much spare time for some reason…

GO POKES!

I’d say the same thing if my program couldn’t win the conference as many times.

Got bored after, “I’d”…

GO POKES!!
