Ollie Gordon does it again.
Ollie Gordon is our best player since….
A) Malcolm Rodriguez
B) Chuba Hubbard
C) Justin Blackmon
D) RW McQuarters
E) Barry Sanders
F) other
I’d say Blackmon with the way he is dominating games and is seemingly unstoppable at the point of attack. Malcolm was a great LB, Chuba could go but OGII’s games and the way he plays reminds me of Justin in that, you know he is more than likely getting the ball and yet, you can’t stop him. Even when you’ve got him in your grasp and seemingly wrapped up, you don’t. Case in point is that 9 yard td where he looked tackled at about the 5 but broke through for the TD to put up 24-7 and really start the route. He’s just in GOD mode right now (Greatness On a Different Level).
Okay, Okay maybe im getting too excited but its just nice to see and OSU RB play like this again. I’ve missed this kind of ground game we’ve all come to know as fans.
You said “since” then I’ll say Rodrigo , Malcom could take over a game defensively but running back since Chubba . Ollie hasn’t reached Blackmon status yet. If we had a qb that was more accurate to open the passing game up more Ollie would get less carries probably. He’s a throughbred , guy gets stronger as the game goes on. Hope he stays healthy. 211 more like 225 at least
What I loved about this game was turnovers were not the reason we won. Turnovers are fickle. We were just the better team. I watched the extended KU ou highlights. KU had two interceptions in the 4th quarter (one really late in the 4th quarter) and still came back to win. The ou defense has not looked good for two weeks in a row. Go Pokes
I thought it interesting that the Cowboys won despite seemingly none of the calls - especially the reviews - went their way. That’s the only comment I have on the interception, I really thought that would be overturned but coming when it did (last few seconds of the first half) and where it did (in Bearcat territory) it didn’t really hurt. Bowman has had a few throws over the last few weeks that were iffy and better corners would have intercepted.
But keep in mind, the Cowboys won big at home against a 2-6 team. A very different beast awaits this week.
Bedlam. I’ve seen so many of them. I’ve seen seemingly bad OU teams rise to the occasion, seeming great OSU teams fail miserably, bad OSU teams rise to the occasion. I’ve seen weather play a factor (the Ice Bowl). OU players run into the OSU receiver who had signaled fair catch on a punt only to be given the ball and no foul called. The ball almost always seems to bounce OU’s way - the ones that stand out are things like Stoops deciding to re-kick the punt. Few and far between. Best to go in hoping that at least the Cowboys compete, that they have a good game plan, and are in it at the start of the fourth. If those things happen, they can pull it off.
Still not convinced this D can step up against OU. I predict OU pops more than 3 big plays. QB, back and a receiver will all bust a big play. The Cowboys cannot let OU jump out to a 2-3 touchdown lead. If Bowman avoids a pick and the Cowboys win the turnover battle they stand a good chance. Play the game.
What could this team do to opponents if we had
a really good QB? I lost track of how many passes should have been picked off last night. Bowman just doesn’t show an ability to consistently throw with accuracy. Once in awhile he makes a really good lob. Rashad Owens is not being used enough. Same can be said about our tight ends.
I offer a number 11: have we played any team so far that is any good?
Bedlam will be the first good team we have faced. This is the weakest Big 12 I can remember seeing.
Nick Martin, Collin Oliver, Kendal Daniels backbone of the defense.
Epps and McKinney could be rising stars.
But this 3-5 defense continues to give up big plays. A good passing QB could pick us apart.
Sam Mayes recently commented that we don’t have the right talent to be using the 3-5 defense. So we’ll have to see what kind of recruiter Nardo is. Biggest question at this time is, how ya gonna keep Ollie down on the farm once he’s seen Paree?
Gunnar Gundy would be wise to enter the portal. We might attract a decent QB in the portal if he knew that Ollie would stay put. Or does Ollie jump to the NFL ? Looks like Gundy doesn’t care about safeguarding Ollie’s health so he can sustain for a whole season. Gundy probably just wants to right the ship whatever it takes.
I would had loved to had Sanders back this season . He wouldn’t of had to do too much with the Gordon is playing. I think we could had still won the games with Rangel playing or even Gundy. Hopefully one of those 2 can pick it back up next season and getting extra reps in practice.
Ollie cannot jump to NFL until after he is 3 seasons removed from high school. He will still be in college next year.
Gordan can jump just not to the nfl next year. I know alot of talk about him jump. He may if most of the line leave. Each of our top 7 lineman can play one more year. We will see
I like the Blackmon reference. He has been unstoppable. I think Bedlam will define him for this season and probably beyond as well.
I’m always amazed by the defeatist approach. “We’ll probably lose.” “No one wants to play here.” Makes me wanna puke.
Hopefully the lineman see blocking for Ollie and winning games as an enticement to stick around
But would we have found out how good Gordon can be if Sanders was there? He definitely kept it on the RPO more than he should.
Which is why we need to do exactly what Kansas did. Win the ToP. Keep the ball on the ground if we can. If we can’t, use Presley a lot in the short passing game. Dink and dunk the OU defense to death with 5-6 yard gains while beating them deep a couple of times.
If DG can be rattled against Kansas then he can be rattled against OSU. Unleash Oliver on him and don’t stop. Outside of Kansas the OU rushing game has been nonexistent. If I’m Nardo I’m sitting in a three man front, rushing Oliver, plugging the middle with Martin, and sitting six back in coverage. Make them beat you with what they have struggled with all season.
Do we order up some freezing rain too:rofl:
I would agree. A heavy does of Gordon combined with short to intermediate passes eats the clock and keeps DG on the sidelines. Defensively, you dare them to run the ball, which will also helps shorten the game. A similar strategy that the Giants used to beat the Bills in Super Bowl XXV.
OU and TX look to be most well rounded and talented teams in the conference, but that hasn’t precluded a team we beat from tagging OU and UT have a scare against conference bottom feeders. Not sure your assessment of the conference is as akrut as you express.
OU does look to be the best opponent we will have faced. I listen to Mayes and think he is pretty spot on usually. First year in a new D scheme with some very young players isn’t necessarily indicative of the talent. I actually disagree with his statement. Most opposing coaches say we are one of the fastest teams they will meet, and our D front is pretty good across NT, DT’s and DEs.
I’m concerned about One Trick Pony as well. If he finishes even half as strong as he’s started, he will be getting multimillion $ NIL offers to his blue blood of choice - Georgia, Texas, OU, USC, Bama, Ohio State, Michigan,…
Sadly this One Trick Pony offense is very fragile. Lose Ollie to injury and not sure who we can beat this season. And even with Ollie 100%, someone might figure out how to at least slow him down and could be OU. There D does practice against similar style RBs. IF that happens, scheming the least mobile and near least akrut QB in the Big 12 won’t be difficult.
I’m frankly shocked that our QB, with a Heisman quality RB totting the rock, can’t seem to break 50% against outclassed defenses. Personally I think we have better QB’s on the roster.
