Can Oklahoma State Follow the Curt Cignetti Path Back to National Relevancy with Eric Morris?

Cignetti brought 13 former JMU players with him to Indiana.

Yes, but we shouldn’t assume a lot of UNT guys come with him. If they do, fine, if they don’t, he’ll find some talent. What’s crazy is how good JMU is again after those guys left for Indiana and Cignetti. They are 10-1 at the moment and the HC they got now will likely bag a bigger gig.

I think JMU has a pretty ■■■■ good NIL setup for a G6 school.

One vital thing Cignetti took to IU is the attitude he instilled in his players (like the old WSU coach: Mental Toughness and Extra Effort) - MG did that for a long time. We’re gonna hit you in the mouth the entire game and impose our will on you at the end.

I have not watched Morris’ teams play yet but know they have good red zone percentages. Hopefully Morris is flexible and ready for a stiffer resolve near the goal line in the Big XII and from schools on the schedule like Oregon and Arkansas. Have a Pistol or Diamond scheme for the red zone.

Finally, if all the coaches currently on staff will be paid regardless of whether they’re retained WHY NOT get some value out of them in some capacity?

Looks like a great hire…

I think UNT will be gutted by transfer portal. Might have happened to some extent even if he stayed there.

Probably best for OSU to scoop up a few of those and I think it probably happens, although maybe not to the JMU –> Indiana extent.

Meacham brought a few guys to OSU, some defensive assistants connected with former players. Coaches want familiar players and players gravitate to those guys as well.

I also completely agree what JMU has done is so impressive!

Bring em ALL! I hate it for some of our guys, but we NEED a total rebuild. There are 3-5 guys on each side of the ball we ought to hang on to, but after that…

We will definitely get some. It would be great to get the QB and the RB who’s from Shawnee. Who did Meacham bring besides Hejny, I’m not aware, was there a TE we have yet to throw to? :face_with_tongue: We still aren’t doing that enough IMO, but then again offense has been so inconsistent.
