The recruits are already signed. I can’t imagine anything changes there.
The coaching on the defensive end this season was abysmal. First of all, continuing to only play man to man defense is ignorant. The best way to disrupt an offense is to continually change defensive schemes - throw some zone, box and 1, etc. in for a few series to slow down an offense’s flow. But the worst part about our defensive system this year was continuing to attempt to double team a perimeter player, which almost always led to the offense passing the ball and eventually finding an open 3 point shot. This defense might work in the lower levels of college ball, but not against Big 12 quality opponents.
I don’t remember Eddie playing much zone. He was man to man all day and his defenses were good. Sure, that was 20 years ago, but he also had athletes that were tough and would play defense and he made sure they perfected it. You probably do need to switch around schemes if you aren’t good on defense, but it’s a band-aid.
Which is why I think Lutz better hope he can get a roster that averages 90 ppg in conference play to make up for it.
I don’t know but would like to see Sutton and Keaton page gone. They have been apart of a loosing staff too long. Hope lutz figures it out.
I dont know - Syracuse made a good living off of playing only zone for years - Coach Sutton the Elder played it a few times but just didn’t seem to buy in for zone - only doubling down on some of the strong post players.
As was mentioned above, IMHO playing zone could have some real benefits 1) forcing opposing teams to use valuable practice time for the zone 2) improves the proficiency of oSu against zone coverage 3) throwing two zones could max players ability to adjust to what they may see (?) 4) facing zones/challenges can create new brain connections (increasing brain function) and slowing down the game for players and 5) throwing a change up at a pivotal time during the game could buy oSu some possessions and force the opponents to burn a timeout…
