Five Thoughts on Oklahoma State's 65-51 Victory against Sam Houston

The Cowboys picked up a Quad 1 win.

The first 7.5 minutes of the second half was the worst 7.5 minutes of offensive basketball I’ve ever seen.
8 turnovers (could easily have been 11), a step back, falling back 3 attempt, and 2 free throws is all OSU could offer offensively in those 7.5 minutes to begin the second half.
The offense is obviously stagnant - players are standing when they don’t have the ball, so when the opposing team plays an aggressive ball denial defense as Sam Houston did, the only offensive option is to dribble penetrate, which we’re obviously not good at.
Boynton needs to study that 7.5 minute stretch and figure out a solution, because he’ll see a lot more of that type of defense once conference season starts.

Agreed, but it was really nice to seem them play through and overcome it rather than panicking and compounding their mistakes… Definitely a step forward in composure and maturity… It also needs to be noted that the starters were on the bench for the majority of that time… Hopefully they learned something about coming out of halftime and playing a little better and harder…

I too am glad they righted the ship and ended up with a W. Thankfully they played excellent defense and made 4 out of 8 three point attempts in the second half.
That said, they’re all highly rated basketball recruits who have all played a lot of basketball, so they should know at this level they have to come out of the locker room and play hard each and every game. There’s no excuse to play as poorly to begin the second half as they did last night.
