He didn’t take a 10-4 team with the same roster and make them 3-9 the very next year .
What are you talking about? Nobody said every 4 star portal transfer should come to OSU. However, if you’re going to claim to be a winning program you should probably have at least half your team or more that aren’t filled with FCS and JUCO players from bad teams. I’d also suggest you should probably do better than back up players from bad P4 teams. You’ve just admitted to me you’re not paying any attention to the transfer portal at all.
As far as fitting the scheme you should probably ask Gundy that question. Seemed really clear to me that Bowman didn’t quite fit the offensive scheme Gundy wanted. Didn’t stop him from taking him anyway because of “experience”.
Arizona State has one right now that’s younger than me by about six years. He just won the conference in his second year and didn’t get a stellar transfer portal class. That’s the difference my friend. Dillingham lives in the age of NIL and adjust accordingly. Gundy still thinks it’s 2006. His hires and continued recruiting methods prove it.
Of course. Thanks making my point. Why think you can replace a winning coach with a coach that doesn’t have a track record? The debate in this forum shows how spoiled we have been as fans. We’re literally taking one season and putting his head on the chopping block, overlooking the fact that he’s literally put Okstate football on the map. I’ll take consistent T-25 seasons over a hope and a prayer each fall, like it was in the 80s and 90s.
I don’t disagree with you re: Gundy and the portal. I agree with you re: Bowman. Like I’ve said before, Gundy’s primary downfall is he’s too loyal. I honestly thought Gunnar played the best in the three card shuffle. But Gundy went with experience and it worked the first year, then failed the second. That said, ASU has always been a more desired school with a larger alumni donor base than Okstate, therefore they can play the NIL game a little better and they’re ranked slightly ahead of Okstate in NIL. Aside from the portal, there’s been several reported offers to 4- star recruits. Again, many don’t want to come to Stillwater, Ok. Can’t change those facts no matter how much you want to debate this topic.
Tell me how many coaches return 19 starters and go winless in the conference? I’m fairly sure that’s what people were pissed off about the most. It’s not like he lost 19 starters .
If Gunnar was good enough he would’ve been starting at Ohio this past season and not Emporia State.
ASU’s portal ranking last year is the same as OSU’s this year. They still won the conference. If Gundy is as good as you think he is then I need to see it. Because I’ve not seen it for 13+ years.
Nope there is no guarantee that OSU will hire a better coach than Gundy on their next shot. That’s not the point. The point is that the school has to set an expectation. That expectation, imo, needs to be winning conference championships. That’s the measure, and either the coach measures up to that bar, or he doesn’t. We’re now 13 years since Gundy cleared that bar, and year 14 hasn’t started especially optimistically.
As for conference realignment, I’ve been clear: There is zero difference between a perennial 8-4 team and a 4-8 team. Neither (without some other hook, like championship level MBB, which OSU doesn’t have) is getting invited to the future power conferences.
BTW, look at the discussions already going on with the CFP. Do you think a 10-2 non-champion OSU is getting an invite to CFP next year? After this year’s SMU flop, there is zero chance a 2 loss Big12 team is getting in over a 3 loss SEC team (like a Bama or LSU). Hence, our mentality has to be championship or bust. And I just don’t believe this version of Gundy is capable of getting us to that pinnacle.
BTW, star players will go to OSU. They’ll go wherever they think the coaches can get them to the NFL. The problem OSU has is that our coaches don’t have that NFL track record. OSU has had great WRs but they are just JAGs at the NFL level. RB is about our only successful advertisement, which is why a guy like Gordon came. If you bring in a coach with NFL cachet, you’ll likely get a few more of those 4 star recruits and transfers. And if you do develop them into NFL draft picks, then you’ll continue to get the 4stars.
In case you haven’t noticed the recent bowl season performance by SEC teams has generated huge cracks in the “SEC is king” narrative and is putting a big kabash on the idea that 3 loss SEC teams being even close to good. We will see if this new view of the SEC sticks over the next couple of years.
There is a reason why BB and primarily the SEC and B10 have a high level of NFL draft picks and the main reason isn’t the coaches. And that reason isn’t hard to figure out.
The SEC is absolutely the best conference. The record in bowl games this last month isn’t changing whats been happening for 10-15 years.
Facilities. Programs. Conf schedule. Coaches. Prime time games. Ability to get to the NFL. Those were the reasons PRIOR to NIL. Now you just add that on top of it.
Dude, you continue to make no sense. “Why think you can replace a winning coach with a coach that doesn’t have a track record?” What in the world are you talking about? Do you have any idea of the history of OSU football, Mike Gundy or any other coach prior to him?? Here are the names of the OSU HC’s in the last 50 years: Dave Smith, Jim Stanley, Jimmy Johnson, Pat Jones, Bob SImmons, Les Miles & Mike Gundy. Do you know how many of those guys “didnt have a track record”? ALL OF THEM. NOT A SINGLE ONE HAD EVER BEEN A HC BEFORE.
Im with you on Gundy. Ive said it multipe times. But you arent making any sense on here boss. Boise St, OSU and a bunch of the junk youve posted as info has been dead wrong.
So ill ask. Is there any way that Gundy could get fired, if you were the AD? If you only want established HC’s, from Stillwater/OSU, that are willing to stay 20 years…your list is going to be pretty short.
That list wouldn’t be short. It’s non-existent.
Yeah he doesnt want someone that will leave if they have success, like Miles. That really limits the pool of guys to choose from because while OSU is a really good job…its not a destination for most guys. He doesnt want to go hire the successful asst out there, even though thats what Gundy was. He doesnt want to hire someone without a HC track record, even though thats historically what OSU has done (including Mike Gundy). Doesnt want to be like Boise St, which is having a winning record every year and winning 10 games under every coach they hire. Doesnt want to be like Florida St, whish is a lunatic statement that needs no background information.
Seven years ago Mike Holder spoke about Gundy’s recruiting mentioning he recruits in the 30’s. Now he recruits in the 50’s and 60’s.
Jug did Holder tell you that at the private meeting ?
If he’s recruiting in the 50’s and 60’s his record doesn’t seem to show that
If that’s correct we should have numerous 4-8 records last ten years
Brown noser that’s from the interview with pistols firing in 2018.

I’m just asking about that meeting you said you had with Holder and shared a drink . You also said you told him off🙄
Seriously you don’t get why a man that recruits at that level wins so many games ?
Come Jug you’re just a hater
Seriously I do get why a man that recruits at that level hasn’t won the conference in 13 years. It’s pretty easy to see.
