Riles was one of the Cowboys’ top 2025 recruits.
I don’t blame any current player for entering the portal. What we now have as a football program is not for what they signed up. Meach got it right when he said the goal is to “keep it fun” for the players who stick around, which means positive attitudes and never quit leadership. Let the W-L results fall where it may.
As for a 4-star recruit, which has been a rarity amongst the last 20 Gundy recruiting classes, I could only imagine those players have an expectation of being prepared to compete for a spot in the upcoming NFL drafts. We don’t currently have anything to offer those type players this year.
Next year is a totally different matter.
That is why the next head coaching hire (and his assistants) IS CRITICAL for the Cowboys to bring in the 4 and 5 star recruits that will turn around this program quickly. Gundy has been making excuses for his recruiting classes for 20 years. No more excuses.
