LIVE BLOG: Cowboys Start a New Chapter in Big 12 Opener against Baylor

I wonder how much of that is due to the product from the 1st 3 games, and how much is fan anger at the Gundy firing?

Jackson might be QB1 after today.

OMG a pump fake.

No, literally nothing is better. A successful trick play is not improvement on offense. I’m not even disagreeing with the gundy haters that a change was warranted, my point is the way in which it was done, and the timing, will harm the program far deeper and longer had cooler heads prevailed. You thought NIL money was scarce before? We just dug ourselves a $15 mil hole with that buyout. Think attracting good coaching talent was a problem before? Who wants to take a job and move their family to Stillwater if they’re not gonna feel secure there? Don’t even get started on recruiting. Why would you come play for such a publicly dysfunctional organization? Might feel good to jettison gundy, but it is only going to make our bigger problems more evident.

Honest question: When was the last time an OSU opponent had to call timeout on defense because they weren’t comfortable with what WE might be calling.

so far so good

Here’s where you are wrong. That so called $15m hole is a sunk cost. That # doesn’t go down until 2027, so unless we’re committing to Gundy for 2 more years (which would literally be program suicide), we’re paying him $15M to leave.

We need more tackling drills.

Or a better defensive staff

Ok so you drove right past the point. Yes, we were committed to him for that much money regardless, but money is finite. We don’t have a lot of it. We need more money to hire a new coaching staff & for recruiting. Both of those efforts are hampered by paying a buyout. Yeah, we were committed to that number, but we hadn’t actually cut the check yet, which is the problem. Now that we have to cut that check, it takes away anything available for the future. I believe paying a buyout, in nearly every scenario, is a giant strategic mistake. We should’ve prepared better for making this split, because it doesn’t appear to me that we will be better off because of how it was handled.

This isn’t the same program it was in a he 90’s. You need to get that out of your head. Don’t worry, I’ll be here next season showing you why you were wrong like I’ve been doing with HeyChamp for the last 365+ days :+1:.

We couldn’t stop that play while playing 12 guys. And on the long run, the left tackle literally didn’t block anyone. He looked around and there wasn’t even anyone in the neighborhood. We, quite literally, might be the worst defense in D1.

I’m 2 under after 12…

That’s the bright spot of my day.

Go Cowboys!

You’re right, we no longer have a billionaire fan boy to prop us up and save us from ourselves. It’s the same dysfunctional organization. And I will be very happy for you to be right and that we can hire some savant coach who fixes everything and wins a title in two years, but that’s not going to happen. Our chance was 2011, and now we’re going to be a bottom 4 big 12 team for at least the next decade.

We ran POWER. Not zone and suddenly the O-line looks like it knows what its doing.

Are you eligible for the Ryder Cup?

Only if there’s a cart girl…

Are you arguing that this is a bad decision because we should have fired Gundy sooner?

Jeff was right when he said “I bet we play better with Gundy gone”.

We had chances to win the conference in 2013, 2015, 2016, 2021, and 2023. Gundy failed every single time after 2011. Now it seems like the team (and fan base) is better off without him.
