And he’s probably played the least. We’ve only been able to see him for ONE QUARTER in either game he’s played.
Yea I get your point as well. Lets hope that the game this Friday serves to solidify QB1 although I have significant doubts about that happening.
I don’t see how starting Bowman helps the future of the program. Gundy feels like he’s trying to not set his son up for failure. So that leaves Rangel. He should start and see what you have. They’ll be in the exact same position next year otherwise. Let the other two get more game time.
Well hopefully next year there will be a red shirt freshman added to the QB room who will mix things up
I gotta feeling Rangel will hit the portal soon. Poor guy was just throw in the thick of stuff last season, not a fan of Gunnar but him too. This would be the perfect year to play one of the 2 since we aren’t contending for anything. I seriously would do this, I would play Rangel as the starter and do some wildcat with Gunnar like some JW Walsh stuff till I absolutely didn’t have any confidence in Rangel. Then if that’s the case with no success with Rangel give Gunnar the reigns to finish the season. Build for next to make run.
Exactly! As stated not a fan of Gunnar but give guys the chance to grow, develop, and experience for the next season that’s going to be here. I know Gundy likes seniority but we’ve seen everything opposite of what he said about the best players and type of offense we were going to see this season. Maybe he just feels sorry for Bowman or it’s old age kicking in or he knows Rangel is transferring and keeping him benched.
Think you’re spot on with your assessment. Bowman starting is toxic and poor for performance. Scabs should only start if they’re clearly ahead of the on-roster players.
Gunnar and Rangel will have to wait until Dec 5th to “officially” enter the portal, but both deserve better than this fuster cluck.
Like your approach. Start Rangel and also play Gunnar. Bowman can skulk around doing NFL-like practice interviews with podcasters.
If we can get performance (both O and D) improved, players likely won’t transfer so much.
Just messing around with this but if the blocking is so crappy then have a tightend in at all times or a full back. I’ve seen very little of it. Let’s completely go old school. It looks like we still want to go vertical or medium a lot with passes to open the run game. I would do a lot of heavy formations with 2-3wr, te, or fb. Run first, te screens, block releases, dumps. Heck get the fullback involved too. I haven’t seen much running back swing passes or running back screens. I really envisioned a Notre Dame type offense this year.
You should replay the game tape. TE Josiah Johnson is in most plays, usually goes in motion and/or pulls. Cassity FB/H is also in for many along with Johnson.
Lack of RB swings and screens is, in my estimation, more a function of Backfoot’s ability to read coverage. In the ISU game, he was scrambling regardless of need, instead of standing in the pocket and going through his reads. Frankly compared to Rangel or Gunnar Backfoot is playing skeert.
So when Backfoot interviews and says “get in sync” what he’s mostly saying is “stop playing skeert”.
Honestly I have no idea when they’re starting him.
Uhhhh I would think that the chances are very low that Gunnar leaves OSU. Then again we are living in crazy town these days so anything is on the table.
What is the over/under on when the K State mascot will pass out from doing so many pushups???
It doesn’t. What it does is gives Gundy an excuse for the future if they look like crap next season. It’ll be something like “QB just needs a little more experience” while he goes ahead and benches the best QB on his roster that still has three years of eligibility left.
That stupid 15-game theory will be the excuse. When he hasn’t even tried to give Rangel an opportunity.
This is exactly what I was thinking earlier this morning. Must suck to know how much better you are than someone else. Only to see yourself getting the least playing time of the three. I can’t say I would blame him if he did hit the portal.
In all honesty, I’m anticipating Rangel, Oliver, Gordon, and Daniels to hit the portal once this chitshow of a season is done. I’m positive there will be more.
And to be quite honest I wouldn’t blame them. Gundy doesn’t mind his best players leaving in the portal while at the same time retaining the worst assistants on his staff. Does that sound like a guy we should be paying 7.5 mil to every season with a 25 million buyout?
From 2010-2017 Gundy had six ten-win seasons or better (that’s eight seasons). For on 2018-2023 he’s only going to have one (that’s six seasons). That could be an indicator of a coach on the decline. I guess call it being a victim of your own success, but he seems very different now compared to his earlier years. He doesn’t seem hungry or enthusiastic. He used to be very involved in the sidelines. Now he just stares into space like a dementia patient.
I’m not advocating firing the guy. I just think he’s been hit or miss on some of his hires lately outside of Jim Knowles. I think he needs to change up what he’s doing, but I also think he might be incapable of that. If that’s the case then he should leave, and not on sour grapes. I just don’t think he’s a guy that can relate with this generation or deal with any of the NIL stuff appropriately.
I swear I been watching the games, I haven’t seen much TE action or on the flank. We’ve had 2 weeks off so hopefully we’ll get what we haven’t fully seen yet. It do looks like different offense when Bowman is like air raid almost then when Gunnar/Rangel in different offense. We need an identity quick. I can’t stand OU but always liked how their offense is ran. Predictable at times but works. Perfect swing passes, we screens, creative with the TE, and getting the RB involved in the pass game. They’ve had 3 different coaches and the schemes seem similar like ours. Use to seem like they use to copy us sometimes.
That would suck. We got 3 super talented running backs. In my life span of watching us I’ve never seen us so deep at running back and as talented as ever in the wide receiver room. That 10 win season span I think we should go back to that offense. I think that JW and Chelf offense was our identity. Imagine if we had knowels for those years. Geeze.
I’m pretty convinced Gundy has something against Rangel or he’s sitting cause he’s going in the portal and we don’t know. Or hopefully it’s just something somewhat positive we don’t know about.
Given Rangel’s performance so far I’m curious where he might go that is better than OSU and where he would get playing time.
