Ban the 25-man class limits!
Well the 25 limit would be fine to get rid of for a team like ku. But you would have stick close to this numbers to stay under 85
Keep the 25 limit but if you have 5 players go into the NIL then you get 5 extra spots for that season. If you have 20 players leave then you get 20 more spots for that off-season.
Getting rid of the 25 per class limit is just common sense. But the NCAA does not operate with common sense. Gundy does.
Didn’t the president of the NCAA get fired yesterday ? Good deal if so. It makes no sense to lose 15 players to the portal and you can’t use the scholarships to fill back up. With all the ones we have had leave this year we could probably sign 27-28
But how do you compete with ATM and Texas on money ?
The 25 person rule went into effect because the Oh U and Shorthorns of the football world signed every player who was decent to keep other teams from being competitive. As you can see, it has worked to some degree as teams that had never beaten these teams in the past have beaten them once in awhile since the limit.
This is exactly correct. Remove the 25 player limit and OU, Alabama, LSU, Georgia, etc. will fill their rosters with kids and programs like KU still won’t have a full roster limit. Also, can we cut the crap that not having a full 85 has anything to do with safety? The NFL has a limit of 53 and only 46 can suit up each game. High schools do it with far less kids (playing both ways).
- Reduce the scholarship limit from 85 to 70. This would allow more talent to spread around which, in turn, might help to reduce the number of transfers.
- Eliminate the 25 per class rule. This gives the coaching staff more flexibility if/when transfers do occur.
The deal with ku is some bs. They only added 14 in this class. That 11 unused.
Last I checked Williams off our team is still not got a team. There guys out there and they got scholarships.
If they if he had to there are always juco guys
I think we should stick to 85. These are only my “Thinks” but. I think these kids should only be able to transfer once and a contract signed. If you try to transfer more than 2x then sit for one season. It must be a huge headache on school administration and academics for a kid to transfer more than 2x. This is turning into a college free agency something worse than a transfer portal. Some of these kids aren’t ready to be treated like adults yet so some sort of stringent rules should be in place.
The only deal I see by dropping the 25 is you end up with a guy going out every year get 50 in the portal.
Most schools are still recruiting thur the high school ranks. Say a school like Memphis goes out and gets 50 older guys and makes the play off. Well that would cause other guys to do it. It’s just a thought. Yes no one has gone of and got all 25 from the portal.
Couldn’t the NIL be contracts that could hold these kids at one school?
In conference transfers should require a year of sitting. Spread out some of the blue chip talent a bit to make the sport more watchable.
My mindset might be too old. Only 36 but a purist mixed with a little new.
