Notes from OSU’s Thursday news conference.
This is me recruiting:
“If you don’t understand what it takes to win championships, and aren’t willing to do what it takes to get there, I don’t need you. If you don’t expect to win championships while you’re here, I can’t use you. I refuse to give a roster spot to any player who doesn’t hate losing more than he loves winning. Inside the white lines, every minute is spent doing everything in your power to help us win championships.”
“Your GPA and your degree can ultimately give you more money than even the largest blue-blood NIL’s can. None of the money is truly guaranteed. We’ll do everything we can to get you as much as we can while you’re here, but rest assured you won’t see another dime from us if you leave. Money is important, but cannot be your only motivation.”
“We will do everything we can to help you have a wonderful experience in Stillwater. Get as much out of it as you can while you can. It’s your obligation to your future self to live with as few regrets as possible. That means making wise choices on and off the field.”
“Rest assured, you will be coached by a staff that has the same chamoionship goal at all times. Anything less than this mindset will not be on my staff for very long.”
“If you listen to this and it aligns with your vision for your Oklahoma State University legacy, then welcome home, Cowboy!”
“If at anytime you feel this is not the place for you, please leave. You are free to transfer to any other school. Except one. If you have to ask which one, please leave now. You’ll never be contacted again.”
That leaves Gundy out.

Yea this all makes sense to us mature folks but for a 17-18 year old they are going to see all this a bunch of different ways and almost all of them in a negative fashion or they just won’t understand what is going on or both. Total fail.
Just some quick math here…. If quarterbacks are really getting paid $2.5M at a blue blood and said quarterback plays there 2 years that’s $5M. “Your GPA and degree will make you more money than the blue bloods can pay”. Let’s say a typical OSU graduate leaves school and does not make the NFL. He works for approx 50 years and averages 90,000 annually over his lifetime…that’s still 500,000 less than the bb paid the quarterback. Sure your degree could make you more money, but it might not.
You put that 5m in the market and you can live pretty well on just the earnings and never touch the 5m investment
