It looks like several old 80’s games have recently been added to the “Big Dave” YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtREdU7e21_xH0z4BGy0RjQ), including a game I have searched for for years - the 1983 OSU-Nebraska game. The first drive by Nebraska in that game is one of my favorite OSU sports memories as a student. We held the “Team of the Century” offense (with 2nd team AA QB Turner Gill, Heisman/Maxwell/1st team AA RB Mike Rozier, 1st team AA Irving Fryar, and Outland/1st team AA Dean Steinkuhler) to 3 negative yardage plays on that drive. The old Lewis Field crowd was fired up.
While that opening series memory was a blast, this was one of the games that trained me to handle disappointment… we lost a close one to the top-ranked Huskers 14-10. I haven’t taken the time nor mustered the courage to watch the whole game yet, but Wikipedia says “Nebraska was struggling to pull away from Oklahoma State, holding on to a tenuous 4-point lead, and watched three drives into Cowboy territory come up empty due to turnovers. Nebraska S Bret Clark made an end zone interception on the last play of the game to preserve the Cornhusker victory…”. To be honest, I had forgotten that part.
Watch the whole game if you dare… but at least enjoy the Cowboys defense (featuring Leslie O’Neal and Mark Moore) on the Nebraska opening drive. This link should start at that series - https://youtu.be/b2ut_bvpGjo?t=371.
Perhaps a thread on some old-school memories here? The good, bad, and ugly?
