After months of pontificating who might emerge from the Cowboys’ sea of newcomers, the program released its first depth chart on Tuesday. It’s the first depth chart of the Eric Morris Era of Oklahoma State football, as the Cowboys prep for their season opener against Tulsa at 2:45 p.m. Saturday at H.A. Chapman Stadium. A little concerning that there’s not a definitive starter at 2 OL positions, both DTs, and both corners.
Also, I’m surprised Wyatt Young isn’t a definitive starter.
I think that’s the best news of the ones you mentioned. I think the WR is so deep that there will be real competition for reps and a little bit that Young might have been a bit overrated.
OL, DT, and to a lesser degree, corner are the positions we were concerned about all off-season and so I don’t think that’s an embarrassment of riches situation. It’s a potential hole.
As per DT, there is no Kevin Williams but are there 4 or 5 LaWaylon Browns? Is that good or bad?
Surprised Horn isn’t starting, a lot of experience from texas tech: is that good or bad? Not an island CB but more of a zone? But the sec (P4) kid got the job.
Really Surprised Mose (coaches son and similar scheme at VT) isn’t starting after big role at VT and playing at Mizzou - does that speak really well of Hammonds?
It really looks like the true weakness of NT’s D last season was lack of depth on that DL. They played running teams and beat them but when they played balanced teams (after they lost the DT to injury) with 4X the NIL budget, they were gashed. Interested to see what Cassity will do with a new deck of cards and more ante money.
BTW, @MS it would be interesting to see a Cassity reflection on his Dad coaching at oSu, on Bob Simmons (the DC for that Colorado NC team), and on his view of this Cowboy defense. Just sayin’
