The Cowboys get hammered to end the season.
Pretty embarrassing to be quite frank. Good thing the cowgirls looked great yesterday.
And tired of that clown Rex Holt saying well it’s just that kind of day. Over and over and over.
I have to let this settle before I give my opinion on this fiasco
Josh Holliday is the Mike Gundy of baseball.
This was definitely a pathetic ending to a very disappointing OSU baseball season. After all the recruiting hype and bold predictions of how good this team was going to be, we end the season just like last season not getting out of the regional. OSU baseball under Holliday had become very mediocre to say the least. This has become the norm the past few years. Getting to a regional is no big deal anymore. But advancing to a super regional and getting to the College World Series appears to be a long shot anymore under Holliday . Getting beat by ORU and getting hammered by DBU is problematic since both these teams supposedly have less talent. If this is the case then it must be the coaching. I’m not seeing this program moving in the right direction with Holliday . I think it’s pretty obvious that Walton will be gone based on our continued pitching problems. But we can’t put all the blame on him. The offensive didn’t show up either. We couldn’t score runs when we needed to and that’s on Holliday . Maybe we should look at the ORU or DBU head coach because they appear to be doing a better job of coaching without as much talent. Bottom line is this program is not headed in the right direction and something needs to be done to get OSU baseball back to where it used to be. The College World Series.
Time for him to hit the road. Will this new administration ever make a fire and a hire?
I follow OSU football, basketball, baseball and golf very closely.
This academic/athletic year has been the most disappointing of any in recent memory. We weren’t bad in any sport; but we weren’t good either.
I disagree. We were pathetic in our last six games in football. We were pathetic down the stretch in the last few games of basketball. We were pathetic these last two baseball games. We sucked in football and basketball. The only saving grace for the baseball team is they actually shared a regular season conference title. Josh Holliday is like the Doc Rivers of college baseball. They start doing well and he’ll find a way to screw it all up and totally tank.
I’ve said it for a while, need to get a better pitching coach than Rob Walton.
If I’m Josh I’m canning Walton, first thing. Then I’m asking Uncle Dave if he would like to be hitting coach again.
I’m so disappointed in baseball. I’ve always liked Holiday but I don’t think he’s going to be able to get it done. If he wasn’t an OSU legacy, he would’ve already been gone. This is the most disappointing athletic year that I’ve seen with OSU since I can remember. It’s crazy. The more money we spend and the nicer our facilities get, the worse our athletic programs perform.
In other baseball news TCU is hammering the hogs 14-1 lol. … I love it
This pitching staff was piecemealed together from kids not that flashy except for Watts-Brown and he didn’t have stamina. I see other team’s starting true freshman. Anyone know if we have any studs coming in cause we lose a lot
a good chunk of our top players/starters (including watts-brown cuz yes he is our top non 2 way starting pitcher returning) like Riggio, Schubert, Benge, Ehrhard, Meola and Brueggemann are not eligible for draft so assuming they don’t transfer they should be back. I think Nolan signs this year but he’s a Jr(according to Okstate.com so that could be wrong) but Adkinson, Wulfert and Marcus Brown are all juniors, as is Stebens Bogusz and Otoole so there is a lot of guys that can be back.
Will they? Long ways away and remains to be seen.
having said all that it is very disappointing to lose as a regional host 2 years in a row, only have 3 Supers and 1 CWS to show for in 10 years when other teams in our conference in Tech and TCU are getting there consistently. I don’t agree with another poster who said Josh would be gone if he was a legacy but I certainly think his seat would be hotter.
I’m not sure we have better talent than ORU and DBU. We have some pretty good pieces, but this team was pretty thin in several areas. As a result, I can’t think of a single facet of the game that this team was really good at. They were average at almost everything and if the Big XII was as good as it usually is, we probably would have been a 3 seed. We went 10-2 vs (in my opinion) the 4 worst teams in the conference. That means we went 5-7 vs TT, UT, TC, & WV. That’s who this team really was. A middle of the road, 5th best team in a below average conference. Tying for the conference championship was a pretty amazing accomplishment for this team. We are also proof positive of what a flawed statistic RPI is.
Riggio is eligible. He turns 21 in a week. The only hope you have is that he stays and tries to move over & play SS. He needs to try to convince the next level that his arm is good enough to play the left side. All those Jr’s will likely be gone. As I said last year when McLain came back……it’s a bad idea. You lose all leverage. The roster will be extremely new looking next year.
Mediocrity has become the calling card of Holliday’s teams. They are just good enough to win games and make a regional, but you can’t count on them to win when it counts. The only thing consistent is the inconsistency. With the salary he makes and the facilities, there’s absolutely no excuse. OSU has several coaches who should have very hot seats. I don’t have confidence in AD to make anything happen, though.
This roster is far more talented than ORU. Benge, Riggio, McLean, are all top 5 rd type talents. The rest is loaded with mud round guys. Offensive talent is not the issue in Stillwater
One play that stands out in my mind is when Brueggemann grounded out on the first pitch of his at bat in the 3rd with the bases loaded. He should have waited to see what the pitcher was going to give him. Completely undisciplined hitter to swing on the first pitch with bases loaded. Once he grounded out without even trying to battle or disrupt the pitcher’s momentum, I knew it was due to poor coaching. It may have been a good pitch, but just chill out and try to battle.
I hope Riggio stays. But, with McClean’s comeback being pretty unsuccessful I doubt he stays. Unfortunately, he is already 21 so he is as good as gone. Losing Mendam, Root and Abrams. We desperately need pitching. Another yeah of more gray hair by being an OSU fan.
