I guess thinking further re unfair advantages, I’m a lot more concerned with parents redshirting in kindergarten for sports advantage and those who fudge birthdates to let kids play down in rec leagues. That’s a much bigger and more consequential issue than the current topic.
Well we aren’t talking about it because the isn’t a perceived problem. I don’t want to distract from @AllisonMc great points, but more people perceive a problem here (to @Dribble point) than a problem actually existing.
You’re right. If I had kids I would academically redshirt in kindergarten. Too many signs points to better development for the oldest kids in a grade than the youngest. However, competitions at almost all but the highest level are arbitrary really, just look at the % of kids from HS FB to NFL (or HS BB to NBA).
Ultimately, the NCAA probably does have the right to hold events wherever they want, and I guess, if they don’t want to have events in states that apparently don’t hold the same values as the organization, it’s probably ok for it to do that.
Technically trans identity is protected health information suitable for a patient and a doctor. So regardless of the arguement in this forum, no one here should know whether someone is trans unless they share that information. Speculation (in person, from a photo, or elsewhere) is just that until the person in question corroborates it.
I found the story/ tweet of interest because USA softball and Oklahoma and put so much money into the new arenas that could become relatively useless in the future because white guys have feelings. It greatly affects our fan base and any home advantage we have at the stadium.
Is this just for Oklahoma State Women’s Sports or can we talk about the NCAA Volleyball Tournament? And is anyone paying attention to it?
I thought in general. My first post was about gymnastic regionals. BTW, nationals is SATURDAY and I’m so pumped!
Semifinals are tomorrow!
I’m going to be glued to the ESPN app between Volleyball, Gymnastics & Cowgirl Softball.
Who are you rooting for in Gym? Better not say LSU…
Bama, of course. Florida is fun. I love UCLA too. I also really like Georgia, but they had a bad night at regionals and didn’t advance.
Sleeper horse that I also enjoy following is Arkansas, they hired Jordan Weiber and they’ve improved so much. She’s incredible!
UCLA and Arkansas are out too, just so you aren’t SUPER disappointed if you’re looking for them.
I’m of course pulling for my Red Rocks! That second semifinal is going to be a blood bath between Utah, Oklahoma, LSU and Bama.
Yeah, fully expecting Bama to not make it. But it’s been an awesome season.
Definitely better than what they’ve been putting up the last several years. Not a huge Duckworth fan so wouldn’t have been sad to see her go (personally) but just making it to nationals will likely keep her around at least another year.
They have some real talent and I wouldn’t be surprised if Blanco challenges Thomas for AA. Should be a fun weekend.
Same with Duckworth. She’s no Sarah Patterson. But we loved going to meets when we lived in Tuscaloosa and the older ones we watched in person. Now we try to hit the Georgia v Bama matches.
Blanco is amazing!!! Never seen anyone like her before at Bama.
Why not go off genotype? Except for rare instances we are all either XX or XY. In instances where people express both genotypes, you could take it on a case-by-case basis.
Comes down to how you frame the issue, and when talking about athletics I feel like it should be framed around competitive advantage. Testosterone gives a competitive advantage regardless of sex or gender; puberty plays a role as well but unless you’ve got a time machine there’s not much to be done about that. I’m all for trans women playing in women’s sports, so long as the testosterone levels of the participant does not give her a competitive advantage, otherwise you’d be forcing the other participants to have to supplement their own testosterone levels in order to compete, which is fair to nobody.
Natasha Mack bouta get drafted on ESPN.
She gets to play with Candace Parker
Mack was drafted No. 16 overall by the Chicago Sky on Thursday night.
She became just the sixth player in OSU history to have her name called on draft night, and the most recent Cowgirl selected into the WNBA since Loryn Goodwin in 2018.
