Carson and Colby recap the Pokes’ loss in Ames.
gps chip in every football. then the refs just have to determine the exact second when the whistle was blown/player is down.
Colby seems pretty upset Gundy kicks a 32 yard field on 4th and 1 instead of going for it. As unpopular of a decision as it might be based on the circumstances I think it was the right choice. I’m sure Spencer Sanders did want to go for it, every qb does, but he isn’t the head coach and he doesn’t decide when to go for it and when to kick a field goal. When the game was on the line it was 4th and 2 and guess what, they didn’t get the 1st down going for it.
Kicking the 30-something yarder to attempt to go up on the road was not a ridiculous choice. But kicking a 50-yarder that early in the game with a walk-on kicker with minimal experience is completely wacko - especially in Ames. If you are wiling to kick a low probably FG from 50, why are you not willing to gamble on getting less than a yard, which statistically has equal or better opportunity of working? If you are gambling there with similar odds, go for broke and try to get the first down to keep momentum.
GPS is a good conceptual idea @pradeep, but currently standard GPS chips are not accurate down to inches resolution. Maybe some day…
