I’ve been using Slack at work since it came out and it’s amazing. I know you guys use it internally and are fans too.
While the forum is nice, I feel like Slack is a much better platform for interacting and having conversations.
Now I understand that there may be some cost and maybe that’s the challenge to doing this, but I think it would be a great perk. The game threads would be so much better in Slack than in the forum.
Kyle - With a Slack sub you actually can have an unlimited number of “guest” accounts that are restricted to a specific slack channel. I believe you can even use the webhooks system in it to automate the account creation and integrate your sign-in with the system (I’m less clear on the sign in part) when someone signs up.
Went looking in the documentation and it looks like they changed the single channel accounts to being 5 per paid user (so for 500 people you’d need 100 paid accounts) which limits the usefulness here (when I ran a data/front end design consulting group over slack we used the guest accounts extensively but this limit would have caused us some headaches). https://slack.com/help/articles/360002034727
Options for slack-style chatting that might make more sense financially would be Discord or Ryver. Discord is free but takes some pretty deep configuration to make into a private setup while Ryver does a flat fee for unlimited users ($99/mo). Both are worth a look.
I think so, I was in agreement with you if it wasn’t clear. I’ve had a bit more experience with it since this thread started and have more positive feelings about it than I did back then
