Recapping a commitment-filled weekend for the Pokes in the portal.
Why so many tight ends? Are we going to try and convert them to lineman or something?
What I was going to sayā¦ridiculous. We already have a good one in Josh Ford and possibly Shettron if he stays at the position, and we hardly throw to TEs to begin with so I could see getting another one, but 3??? ![]()
Also signed a kid, Jordan Vyborny, in next yearās class.
Did Meachum suddenly switch to 12 and 13 personnel offensive systems?
Woke up today and gundy still sucks
Looks like we got all new coaches that were on there way out of coaching from getting run off other teams and a bunch of players from snow college state. Two years ago gundy told you the program has never been in a better spot. This conference is no better than conference USA and we have no money. Buckle up because this era of osu football will be bad. Expectations moving forward will be getting excited to make a bowl game. Sad.
Yep past history of non use could make one wonder why we would bring in so many TEās. But perhaps history isnāt a good prediction of the future, kinda like the stock market, Ohhh and the fact that we have an ENTIRE new coaching staff save for the head man. Perhaps this new staff has a new plan? But Nawwww us couch QBās know better. This new coaching staff is a bunch of dumb bunnies who couldnāt possibly know how to properly use a TE. Even though we donāt know them, know what they are thinking or seen them coach a down of football at OSU.
Converting a TE to a lineman. Which worked out well for us in the past so much
. Kind of like how we used Jelani Woods well in the past
.
Actually thereās plenty of history in converting TEs to tackles, but it takes about 3 years for them to put on the size and weight necessary to be effective, and that assumes that they were starting out as in-line (blocking) TEs and not Slot or Receiving TEs. But given weāre referencing portal transfers who arenāt likely to be here in 3 years, Iād find that strategy dubious at best.
I havenāt bought a game day program in years but I am going to need one this fall ā¦
You know it. There are so many experts on this board, Iām shocked that they arenāt part of the new coaching staff instead ofā¦you knowā¦whining and complaining endlessly about what they think they know. Oh and, of course, trashing the new coaches and players that have come on board.
Itās a shame Gundy doesnāt just check The Chamber for all of the free expertise and constructive feedback that could be mined.
It is a shame. If he had, he might have fired Dunn 4 years ago, and then won the title with a competent offense in '21.
Ever heard of the 3 tight end set ?
Yea they are all trash. No need to be optimistic at all. We should just drop football
I asked that question earlier? Are we planning more 13 personnel? Does Meachum have a history of using 13 personnel in any of his prior stops? We didnāt use it much when he was here, and I donāt recall much 13 personnel at TCU. His time at KU was short-lived so not real sure what he ran there.
Just seems weird to me. We seem to be recruiting for a 12 and 13 personnel offense, yet Meachumās history (at least what Iām familiar with) was more spread based using 10 and 11 personnel. Simply feels like our recruiting doesnāt match the expected offensive style.
Meachum loves the air raid and flirts with the 3 tight end set. Guy heās bringing in runs it a lot
Meachum doesnāt run Gundys offense so Iām sure Gundy will try to incorporate some of it but he better let him run his own and maybe a few plays
I donāt know what the exact plan is but he knows he has to get it right
Meachum has had some good offenses in the past
You actually hit on one of my concerns with the Meachum hire. And I agree, we donāt know what the exact plan is. But Gundy has previously talked about training the OCs to āour systemā. Is Meachum coming in to basically run the same RPO offense that we already have, or is he bringing in his own offense. Given Meachumās history with OSU, and the fact he hasnāt called his own offense in several years, I am a bit concerned that heās being brought in to basically be a new voice calling the same stale playbook.
Gundy bypassed him a time or two in the past, the main reason he left. Think there were hard feelings over it. Feelings get left at the bank though. I donāt think Doug would come to run Gundys offense. Just my opinion. I hope the QB coach is allowed to choose who he thinks should start too or have his say in it
Having a 4th in the room now insures to me one at least portals
Agree on the portal. At least one will be in the Spring portal. Iāll be curious if we see rumblings in advance. Bringing in a QB on the day the portal closes might be seen as sneaky and ānon-transparantā to the players. You know, kind of like announcing the firing of the assistant coaches after the December signing day. Unless there was clear transparency to the kids, it doesnāt feel like that would build a strong foundation of trust.
As for Doug running Gundyās offense, I think thatās where we differ. You are the clearly more the optimist, and are hopeful that Meachum is bringing something fresh, and Iām the pessimist, that Meachum is someone who Gundy thinks can step in and keep running the same old show. Neither of us is right, nor wrong. We just wonāt know till August. But I honestly do hope you are the correct one.
Doug and Gundy have butted heads before when Doug was on staff. Does that mean anything? Nothingā¦. I do know Meach likes throwing the ball and a fast pace. You have to have a running game too. Iām hoping Shettron stays healthy and we have a couple new ones in the room break out !! Just a guess but Iām sure Gundy and Meacham solved all that before sighing him. The D has to be better, it canāt get worse
Edit : almost forgot them running a three TE set or incorporating te in in some way bigger Wouldnāt have to be much but why waste 3 scholarships on three portal teās
