You are out of your mind if you think Mike Gundy couldn’t request an extra 500K for his recruiting budget and not get it. If Gundy said that is what he needs to put together a winning team the university would jump at it immediately. 500K is nothing to the university. If Gundy was asking for millions of dollars extra every year you’d have a point.
Okstate is not a private uni, it’s a state uni governed by the board of regents. They approve all dollars. Okstate doesn’t have the revenue profile of OU and others due to the lower revenue providing alumni pool. If OU is going to the state to seek more revenue dollars to be competitive in the SEC, where do you think Okstate finds a cool $500k? Not that easy, nor available unless you want to pay more taxes or cut more/larger fan/alumni support checks. I take it you’ve reviewed okstate’s balance sheet? Maybe it’s income statement? Unless you’ve personally reviewed their financial statements, you can’t possibly make the assumption you’re making.
“In the 2022 fiscal year, OSU reported revenue to the NCAA of $104.4 million and expenses of $103.3 million, putting the school’s athletic surplus again in the $1 million range.” Surplus of over a million for 2022. Also note the word again, they have been in the surplus for at least 2 years, likely many more if someone wanted to take a look.
“The school’s athletic expenses totaled $121,003,194, leaving the department with just over $1 million in operating surplus.” This is for 2023.
But that doesn’t mean it’s available for the school to freely spend on recruiting. That’s what you’re failing to understand. Do you know what the school has targeted with that money? Maybe it goes to upgrading facilities now that Boone’s gone. Maybe it goes supplant rising costs, etc. Who knows, certainly not you.
If they were saving for other stuff it would’ve gone into the budget not ended up as a surplus. If you think the head coach of almost 20 years can’t ask for some extra money that he thinks will push his team over the edge won’t get approved you are huffing copium.
Wow, didn’t know I was conversing online with the budget administrator and decision maker at Okstate. I mean, it’s actually Chad Weiberg that drives that request as the Athletic Director. But nice to know that you’re higher than he is…….and knows more intimately what’s been or hasn’t been requested of the BOR.
You are a serious clown if you don’t think that the 20 year head man of the single most valuable program of the entire university could go to Chad Weidberg and tell him “Chad I would like a larger recruiting budget, about 500K more. I think this is what we will need to compete at a championship level.” They would move mountains for him if he came to them and said this is what I need to win the Big 12.
Isn’t it funny how corporate, and for us Oklahoma State, finance works. Just get the publicly available profit and loss statement and instantly know how much money they do or don’t have to spend on stuff. I mean that is all that the legions of accounting staff and CFO’s need in order to operate and make spending decisions. LOL as someone who spent 40 years in the corporate world that ain’t even close to being right. Anyone who thinks that hasn’t a clue.
Only a clown would believe Mike Gundy couldn’t go to Weidberg and ask for a larger recruiting budget and Chad wouldn’t work it out for him. What’s Chad going to do? Tell him tough shitt we don’t care? Yeah sure. The whole ■■■■ budget is built on football winning. If Gundy said that’s what he needed to win they’d get it to him.
Who is to say he hasn’t? Again you’ve no clue how things with finances work.
I think Mike has made it pretty obvious he isn’t big on recruiting. One of the lowest offer rates in CFB, does not go for many 4 star or higher recruits, made a stink about NIL when it originally started. You don’t recruit in the 50s in you are actively recruiting higher level players with the track record of success Mike has at OSU. Additional money would be there for him if he asked for it. End of story.
Do you know of a source that shows all offers given by Oklahoma State football? I’ve been looking for one without success so far.

You can also go on 247 a compare our offer count to other programs by year. We are one of the lowest in all of P4 and it’s usually by a large amount compared to other teams in our own conference let alone the Big 10 or SEC.
Thanks. It’s interesting. I found a offers database on ON3. According to them Oklahoma State offered 133 players this go around. Of those 18 signed. Don’t know if that is typical for a team or not. Doesn’t look good to me though. The ON3 offer database does not seem to include portal offers but does include portal commitments. 2025 Oklahoma State Cowboys Football Offers
