The Pokes are left out on Selection Sunday.
So many undeserving teams got it over them but they put themselves in that spot by playing dumb and blowing leads. Clock is ticking.
My take on Boyton’s future as HC of Oklahoma State:
He has two more years
If he hasn’t turned it around in two years, then he’ll be in the final three years of his deal and the buyout to fire him will be at its lowest percentage wise.
There are a lot of questions on the team selections every year and I do agree the team let a few games slip away that they should have won. With that said, how does the best conference in the country get 7 out of 10 teams in and the team that finished 8th gets in over the team that finished 7th?
For me it’s one year. Then again I don’t know how serious the boosters and the AD are about the current state of the OSU basketball program. It’s a shame that GIA isn’t what it used to be. In reality we’ve only had one good coach in the last 17 years of OSU basketball. I like Boynton, but not to the point where the basketball program continues to be a dumpster fire. I hope the kids he’s bringing in next year already possess discipline and fundamentals, and are able to coach themselves because all Boynton’s consistently shown me is that he can recruit but has no control whatsoever on what happens on the court.
https://twitter.com/christianc0rona/status/1635049330523652096?s=46&t=7R5_falU2t6lDe5LgF9AhQ Now this is crazy. NCAA absotluely fuckin hates us and we cannot allow them to make the decision on whether we belong or not. Have to make our own path.
The sanctions really hurt our recruiting for most of Boynton’s tenure. No wonder the other coach bolted for Illinois.
This miss will hurt as high school players and their friends and families all focus on the NCAA and OSU will not be mentioned (unless it’s the last one out conversation, ugh). Those kids won’t be able to watch and see our team and conclude that’s where they want to play.
I guess we can go win the NIT to salvage something. I also see where we need to hit the transfer portal hard.
Did I miss something with Kalib? What the heck happened there? Coach?
Agreed. I remember when GIA was packed and got so loud, it sounded like a jet engine. Yeah I have no hate for Boyton. He seems like a real good man but he’s just not getting it done.
Hit the nail on the head. Leave no doubt.
Dang, totally forgot about the vendetta they have against us for calling them out . But we had plenty off opportunities to not let it come to that . Let’s pick ourselves up (preferrbably tomorrow) after we put a few down and get ready for the next game .
At the end of the day, we are a poorly coached team. He wants to be their best friend and not their coach. We are horrible…horrible 3 point shooting team but it’s ok for him if we go 3-21 against Texas. We should go after oral Robert’s coach. He knows how to win.
Boynton needs to quit writing letters to the NCAA selection committee and start finding some players from the portal who can come in and play right away. Preferably we need a PG and shooters who can take the ball to the basket. This years team had to be the worst ball handling team that I can remember. Without Anderson we were forced to shoot contested shots. We can’t expect the players who are signed for next year to come in and play immediately in this conference. They have no college experience. We need experienced players from the portal who can come in play in the Big12. If we don’t bring college players to go along with the new recruits, we will miss the NCAA tournament next year. One more year for Boynton if he doesn’t make the tournament, we need to go in another direction. OSU Basketball fans deserve better.
Yet again we are shackled to a poor hire by Holder and even a worse contract that we can’t afford to buy out of.
If you have a choice: a great recruiter who can’t get his team to play together or improve, or a coach that recruits middle of the road, but gets the most out of those players? I’ll take the latter every single time. Boyton is a great guy, and an amazing recruiter, but his lack of X&Os shows with this being his first head coaching job. Give me someone like Gundy all day. We are going to have off seasons (in both sports), but Gundy always has us with a chance (although he better concentrate on the OL or I won’t be able to support my stance much longer).
The worst mistake we ever made was expanding GIA. We put money (ticket sales) before character and experience.
Another note on Boynton is that he’s a bad judge of talent. Likekele was horrible for us and always started. Now he’s horrible for Ohio state and came off the bench as a 5th year senior.
Im not sure about boynton being bad at evaluating.
I know he is bad at developing. When ice came in he was great. Then got worse each year. No one has improved under boynton
It comes down to these things every game:
- Poor free throw shooting
- Poor 3 pt. shooting
- Very sloppy passing.
- Turnovers
It didn’t seem it changed all year! Shooting 3’s so many times is like a turnover. I think Coach Boynton is a class act, but it’s not bringing Eddie ball back and not filling GIA.
Most years seventh in the conference means you’re bowl eligible. Boynton should probably get a contract extension.
Simply not true. We have had several players get better. Ice, Boone, Cisse, come to mind.
