Dave did another great job with this survey.
Why would any NFL coach/coordinator want to come coach in college with all the headaches of nil/transfer?
1: A HC position could be a step up from being a Coordinator.
2: It is much easier to win at the college level. Therefore, your job security is a little better.
3: Big Payday.
4: The NFL isnt headache free. In college, you are still the highest paid member of your ballclub. Thats not the case in the NFL.
In a bunch of cases, the HC isnt doing any NIL stuff. That is handled by your “Front Office/GM” types now. The HC has to recruit, but these programs are figuring out how to work within the confines of the NIL structure.
“Of the polled, 51.3% strongly agreed with the decision to move on from Gundy with another 29.7% selecting the “agree” category. That means 81% of those polled agreed to some extent that it was time to move on, while only 7.7% were in the “strongly disagree” or “disagree” camps.”
“Strong Recruiter - 4.4”
Looks like most of us are in agreement that holding on to a 58 year old Pat Jones style coach, that’s not serious about NIL was the right move. We’ve also been saying for years if you don’t recruit to a certain extent to WIN the conference title you never will. A lot of the guys from the 2011 team were from a Top 25 recruiting class. Something Gundy never accomplished for 14 straight years afterwards. Which is exactly why we haven’t won it before NIL, nor afterwards.
Agreed. Not at the current state until regulations and a governing body (or commissioner) can be established, which could be another 5 years. Also, Zac isn’t an Okie… he’s from Denver.
There are probably 100 Head Coaching gigs in the Power 4 and NFL combined. Those are hard to come by. So you can turn one down if youd like. But those are still very coveted jobs. This site is filled with people who have the absolute most pessimistic view of College Football. Times are currently bad in Stillwater. I get it. But fellas, this is still a wonderfully popular game. It will be in Stilly again too
I dont care if they fit the culture. I would prefer they not be an alum. I don’t care if they see OSU as a stepping stone job. JUST. WIN. CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!
UNT is 5-0. Eric Morris all day. T-tech guy, but he ain’t getting that gig for a while.
We can see w/ the Bill Belichick experiment that it often doesn’t work out well to dip into the NFL ranks for a HC. I like Zac Robinson a lot as a person, but he’s never had a CFB position. We need a guy who can recruit Texas, that’s either Eric Morris or GJ Kinne. Either is good by me.
Yeah I never understood that belief by some places that you have to have an alum or “one of our guys”. You just need the right guy. Red jacket, Green jacket, who gives a s**t
Plus dude really thought Alex Cate was better than Weeden when all of us were yeling at Gumby that he had the wrong dude in there!
I guess Zac needs to weigh what he has going on with his current NFL career against a HC job at OSU that he will probably be fired from in 3-4 years if things don’t go swimmingly. He will also be trading NFL owners, HC’s and GM’s as bosses for AD’s, BOR’s and Donors. Who would you rather work for?
Yea the only championship coaches that have coached at OSU quit OSU to do it. Jimmy Johnson and Les Miles.
Bill is also 80 years old and can’t rely on the winningest QB to ever play the game of football anymore. He’s also gotta worry about servicing his 23 year old girlfriend. I’d say looking at what he is doing is not an accurate representation of what an NFL coach can do.
Isn’t ZR a legacy and alumni?
oSu
Open the ■■■■ vault and go get the absolute best!! Kenny Gajewski has been tremendous for softball!!! And he’s an OU alum and member of their 94 Natty squad in baseball. I don’t give a fk. Go get the best. Period. Chad OWES it to the fanbase, alumni and donors who suffered for DECADES before Boone’s gift and Gundy’s prime. Then the same people had to suffer through Gundy burning his foundation to the ground. Go get someone who is young, hungry, and with a chip on their shoulder. Creative, relentless, someone who would crawl through fire to WIN conference and national championships.
Hmmm, okay, best there is, have the money to pay him, and he’s willing to come here….NAME THAT COACH
GJ Kinne.
But assuming money is no issue, and we can pay whatever it would take to get a guy to leave his current job….give me Dan Lanning.
Yes, but now back to our regularly scheduled reality programming. You said open the vault, but keep in mind it’s OUR vault. It could be a nice gold or lithium filled vault or it could be Al Capone’s vault. And then reality says they have to agree to come to Stillwater.
