Week 2 2024 Game Thread, Arkansas

There’s a conspiracy theory that Iba hated the football program and didn’t care if they won or lost. The outcome of all those trips to Arkansas without a return wouldn’t require any money at all. As to why it kept happening after he retired, I have no idea.

We played them 8 times in 46 meetings in Stillwater! That has to be unique among matchups, any sport, although there is probably a glaring counter example.

Arkansas was a dominate program back then though.

So, it was Jimmy Johnson (ex-Arkansas player) who called out Broyles. He said either home and home or nothing. That’s when we stopped playing Arkansas every year.

(I made a few trips to Little Rock for the games while a student)

Assume they were at Memorial Stadium?

Another interesting fact about the Arkansas series, we did have a home game in Stillwater in 1975 (my senior year). This is when the Orange Power chant actually started organically. All of the students were on the north side of the stadium and alums on the south side. Somehow the ‘Orange’ started in the student section, and ‘Power’ on the south. I remember my dad, sitting in the south, saying after the game that he couldn’t let the students (me) be louder than them.

So the story about it starting by Mr Orange Power in Kansas City isn’t true?

On Memorial Stadium it’s getting very run down. I think Arkansas should invest in it more because they have a huge core of fans in that area of the state that don’t want travel 3 hours to Fayetteville.

The idea shouldn’t be to placate the fans who happen to live 3+ hours away by creating an easier way, and simultaneously make the students travel to what amounts to an away site. If they want to watch the games, find a way to get to Fayetteville.
FIFD

They actually do it for the exact reason I posted.

Not saying they don’t, but I’ll change “isn’t” to “shouldn’t be”. Just saying I don’t agree with their reasoning.

Read the story - " Redick moved back to the Tulsa area from Georgia in 1997. He and his wife, Kristi, purchased Cowboy football season tickets for that season. At the games, he noticed the crowd had dropped the “Orange Power” chant he loved while he was an OSU student, graduating in 1987."

I didn’t have tickets, and barely came back to games from about 1989 until 2014.

Can we just let Taylor roam the sideline doing random, periodic interviews with a camera following? No problem though, I’ll be in the stadium.

Thank god I’ll be there

Dusty isn’t that bad. He can leave his bias home long enough to call a good game. He’s far from where he was just out of school.
Pasch isn’t bad
Arkansas always thought they were national contenders back when we played in Little Rock every year. They were leaps ahead of us. Someone posted. When Jimmie came he said home and home and Broyles said no
We have surpassed them now
I hope we beat they ever loving chit out of them come Saturday. Their football fans are as bad as the baseball fans , F’em
