On OSU’ defense, missed opportunities and an overall fluky football team.
“Back then, a high-powered top 10 OSU team was trying to run the table after a loss in that epic Bedlam game and would have done so had not the Wildcats eeked out a 45-40 upset.”
We were down 42-13 in that game at one point. We got outcoached.
This was only the second game this season I had the opportunity (and the stomach) to watch most of. And good grief, it was sloppy. The turnovers, my gosh. It was just a weird game of two not very good teams. Halfway through the 3rd qtr I was just… bored. It wasn’t good football and it wasn’t entertaining, so I turned it off and decided to do something more productive with my time.
You could just say it was chitty football.
It’s asking a lot for a redshirt freshman, but Flores has zero awareness in the pocket. Besides the hail mary, all of his turnovers were because he held the ball for way too long. Both of his fumbles he had guys wide open in the flat but he never even looked their way.
Should’ve won that game. Flores was late a LOT on passes…too indecisive far too often. Too many dumb penalties.
I can’t decide, is the offense pathetic or hapless in the red zone? Perhaps pathetically hapless?!?
My son and I were saying the same thing. I can’t tell if it’s pocket awareness, not being able to read a defense quick enough, or if we are putting in plays that don’t justify his skillset…but something is definitely off. If he had the legs of a truly mobile QB (or at least used the good wheels he has), then I could let a few of the inaccurate throws slide, but that’s not the case.
Whatever coach put in the RB pass needs to be relieved of their duties immediately
Should’ve won, but five turnovers will get you beat every time.
If you would have told me we were to have 5 TOs another SOD I would have predicted Kansas St scored 50.
The Wildcats looked unimpressive. Avery Johnson’s qb sweeps were weak.
Not taking what the defense is willing to give him. Don’t worry, he just needs 15 games to get it.
I think this game said more about just how bad we are. K State was literally giving us every chance possible.
But what about Kansas St? they were supposed to contend this year, but sit at 5-5. They look very mediocre. I mean to end up in a pillow fight with OSU….
And boy some people on here were VERY, VERY high on Kliemann. Some people were VERY, VERY adamant that OU would be the next Nebraska. Some people were VERY, VERY adamant that OSU was going to dominate once OU/TX were gone. Thats why I love these forums…RECEIPTS
I like Kileman and definitely thought K St and Iowa St would contend this year. Look around the country at coaches who have underperformed. I would say Dabo and Franklin underperformed the most. While Gundy had a terrible team, they were terrible last year. Clemson & Penn St were supposed to contend for the NC. I never said OSU would dominate the B12 with OU-Texit, but definitely thought they would contend and never imagined this.
Regarding OU, I had them at 8-4 or 9-3 this year. So I’m not far off. OU is really among the top 3 programs in history, so I didn’t think they would become Nebraska. I wasn’t sure if Venables was going to make it, but his seat has cooled immensely. I don’t really think they will have a deep push in the playoff as their offense is just too underwhelming, but again it will depend on matchups. Heck hosting a first round playoff game should bring a lot of excitement to Norman.
Thats a very solid response. Well done.
Kliemann was part of the argument for those idiots who wanted Gundy fired for not winning enough Conf titles or not beating OU enough.
I was just looking back at some of the posts on here during that time, and boy its good stuff. Venables is a great dude. This era of College Football is filled with the slimiest of the slimy. He is not one of those guys, and I root for him.
The excitment in Norman is higher than its been since the early 00’s. Its very fun to see. There were PLENTY of people acting like OU would never win again once they got over in that league, which was really a dumb thing to say
I think K State came in here playing a D+ game while OSU came in playing the best game of the year (outside the 5 turnovers). If we can’t score a single touchdown against .500 P4 competition against a team that did not take us seriously at all then we’ve still got huge problems. At least the defense gave it their all. Weird how they got better when the DC was fired
.
Ya think 5 turnovers pulled our grade down a bit? No kidding. Do you really think we are going to win a game the rest of the year? What planet are you on? Thanks Captain Football
