Maybe you’re right. But I haven’t seen OSU have a good O-Line regardless of the talent up front with Dickey and Dunn as the offensive coaches. So until shown otherwise, I’m too the point that its not the players, but the coaches that are the problem. I’d note that usually when its a talent issue, its clearly obvious as a team capitalizes on its advantage over a single guy (or maybe 2). Like the Thursday NFL game, where the KC guard had no chance to block Hutchinson and everytime Detroit got that matchup, AH won. That’s what a talent deficiency generally looks like. But for OSU, its a consistent inability to get the 5 guys working in unison. Basically every play, someone isn’t where the need to be, or there’s a missed assignment, or something. Not from 1 player but consistently something breaks down. When the errors are by all 5+ guys, that, to me, feels like scheme or coaching and not talent.
Rhule won at Temple. In 100 years of football, the list of coaches who have won there is short. Real short. In fact, his name is the only one on it. I know we joke about Nebraska choking away another game last week, and they’ll probably get run ruled today, but he’s just following his pattern. He always sucks in year 1 of his rebuilt. But by year 3 they are winning 10 games.
I’m not personally a fan of him. I never thought his game would translate to the NFL, which it didn’t. But to diss his accomplishments in defense of Mike Gundy just demonstrates your woeful understanding of football.
Fair points. To me personnel choices are obvious too. Why wasn’t Brooks starting all last year as an example.
I hope we see some new guys this week.
Baylor is looking better than last week. Leading Utah 10-3 at half. Interesting stat: former OSU RB Dominic Richardson has 9 carries for 67 yards, which is an average of 7.4 ypc.
Where did I ever say they would be good head coaches? I believe the entire conversation was based around Dunn never being good enough to BECOME a HC. Maybe Holgy and Monken were less than impressive as head coaches, but nobody is spurring any interest in Dunn as a HC anywhere right now. Stop tap dancing around the main thesis of the topic and get to the point.
You’re talking to two homers that can’t even stay on the same topic without tap dancing around it in defense of Gundy. Never once in my conversation with Mike here did I ever mention Gundy or how those other guys did as head coaches. I just simply said that Dunn would never be good enough to become a HC. At least Monken and Holgy DID BECOME a HC. This is exactly why I told our friend Mike here to stop bringing checkers to a chess match.
Isn’t it strange how we had three offensive coordinators before Mike Yurcich go on to become a HC at a D1 school. Yet, after Mike Yurcich we’ve not had a single OC go become a HC anywhere yet? That doesn’t register in their brains though. There’s only two things that they do if you mention anything negative about the coaching staff:
-
An automatic defense of Mike Gundy (even if he’s not mentioned)
-
Excuses / Blame for players and injuries (even though the coaching staff recruits them and is responsible for their development).
LOL yea you are going to lose the younger crowd on this one unless they have geeked out on a 1960’s era show. LOL
Synder is a hall of fame coach. Their program was worse than ours He coached what 30 years. Why bring up Synder , you idiot. Clown
That’s true isn’t it … lol
Tap dance around on a subject ? You bring more irrelevant chit into a conversation than anyone when you get proven wrong joy. There are several things I don’t like right now but I’m know what it is. You don’t… you don’t have a clue what really went on last year with the second half. You just blame Gundy for injuries and the turmoil inside the locker room was far worse than you know. You just hate Gundy Bring something new for once. You hate being proven wrong don’t you
Can’t speak for Bill, but I feel like his position is similar to my own. I don’t hate Gundy. I think he should be in the Ring of Honor and have a statue in the front of the stadium. That said, I do think he has become satisfied and comfortable and, given the chaos of conference re-alignment and the societal change of recruiting/NIL/transfer portal/etc, he’s no longer the right man for the head job.
You might as well speak for joy, you might make more sense than him. The next two years will tell on Gundy I’ve stated for two years in not satisfied with Dickey but we have him. He hasn’t brought a lot of good recruits in for me and a lot leave But we have him for now
He doesn’t know how to deal with it. Look, I think Gundy has done a great job getting the program where it is, and I think he did extremely well in his first 10-12 years of the program given the circumstances he faces at a place like OSU. However, as you’ve stated. He’s struggling to deal with these new ideas, concepts, and circumstances college football has instituted.
He’s already stated he doesn’t want to keep recruiting his players in the off-season. Well……tough chit. Until something changes, he DEFINITELY needs to be doing that. It’s one thing if a player gets a NIL package and hits the road somewhere else. It’s another when you make no efforts to get people to stay. I’m not going say if he did or didn’t. I don’t know that for sure. It sure does sound like there wasn’t a lot of effort in doing so though. Based on what I’ve seen from the first game though. I’m willing to bet he wishes Spencer Sanders was still around.
What exactly have I been proven wrong on so far? As far as the second half of last season. It looks like we carried that into the first game of THIS season. We had 13 points going into the fourth quarter against a FCS team. You really need to get a handle on yourself. At least I’m not making an excuse for anything if I do get proven wrong on this forum. That’s up to you homers to do.
I get what you’re saying. Here’s where I come from:
Gundy’s contract guarantees him 2 years at least. But the next big conference re-alignment is happening in 2030, when the SEC, Big10 and Big 12 TV contracts renew. And a middling OSU team runs the very real risk of not getting a ticket to that ball. We have 6 years to be DOMINANT in the Big 12, so we can ensure that we’re playing at the big kids table in the future. So throwing away 2 or 3 years treading water and simply being happy to make a bowl game scares me as an OSU fan.
I’m not going to tell you, or Robert, or any one that you should support firing Gundy, or any of the coaches. But unless you want our OSU to turn out like this year’s OSU (Oregon State), I recommend you raise your expectations of the program. Because 7-5 and the Texas Bowl isn’t getting us into the next super conferences.
Where did I ever say 7-5 was my hot point for our record ? Point it out for me. You should know better than that. That’s joy chit. I want 12-0 every year. I’m with you the last half last year and one , that 1 , this year we aren’t what I want. If they go to super conferences. I don’t have any doubt we are there. I think Gundy goes when he wants unless Weiberg grows a set and makes a stand on what’s best. The regents will know too. Joy thinks it’s easy to replace Gundy, I’m not that confident for a long term coach
Have you tried being quite long enough to look at all the D1 school’s having problems with FCS schools ? There have been a bunch. I’ve said out main problem is OL now you will come back with why doesn’t Gundy fire Dickey , I can’t tell you so go ask Gundy Your dad said he confronted Holder … lol
Like who?
UNC is just one
