Facts!!!
Sure would be nice if that could result in actually winning the conference again.
After the South Alabama/ Iowa St games last year OSU was 2-2 and it was hard to see if the Cowboys would even have a postseason. Then OSU reeled off 5 straight wins, including a memorable bedlam game and made the CCG. All these fans who are projecting our season after the second game, donât know how our season will actually end up. The extreme criticism of Bowman is completely disregarding that he accounted for 86% of the Cowboy offense. Itâs not Bowmanâs fault that the run game is mired in mud. The lack of a run game will make any quarterbacks job a lot tougher. He was at his best last year when we had balance on offense. Was he great no, but he made plays when had to. OSU had several big plays called back especially in the red zone, yes his Unsportsmanlike Penalty was one of them, but the penalty on Schultz wasnât the QBs fault. Fans who clamor for Flores without ever witnessing a practice or being in the Qb room is just typical speculation that the best Qb is sitting on the bench.
I donât understand the anit-Bowman crowd. I get some of the complaints on hereâŚjust not that one.
I donât believe anyone has said they will. All Iâve said is you canât continue to play that way and expect to make it to Arlington. You might be able to pull that off against the 13th best team from the SEC, and weâll see where Arky ends up this season. However, youâre not going to pull that off against Utah or on a road trip to Manhattan.
I donât care if both those teams didnât look very good this week. They have talent and theyâll change things up when they need to. My concern is our coaching staff being reactive instead of proactive. We did this a lot last season as well. Weâve got to be drastically better in the first half of games.
I donât think anyone is blaming Bowman for the run game. That goes on the coaches and our OL for being predicable and soft. My issue with Bowman is to not act stupid on the field. Heâs not Baker Mayfield or Lamar Jackson. You can do that when youâre good. Bowman is not even close to being that good.
Thatâs also goes on coaching. Youâve gotta teach disciplined football especially when youâre that close to scoring in a game like this. Our red zone offense has been bad enough in the past. Coaches need to teach players werenât not good enough offensively as we were in the past to do stuff like that and get away with it.
Iâm not sure who would be better because I never get to see our options. Of course, weâve made this mistake in the past multiple times where the best QB was on the bench. So I canât blame some of the fans for having speculation. If a third stringer from Michigan is our best option then we need to do some serious recruiting in the QB department or fire our QB coach for not doing his job.
Hey champ,
Do you mean the 13th best team that you hyped up all week by telling us how they only lost to Bama and LSU by 3 points each? Just remembering this as Iâm going through all my receipts.
Yes. Every now and then a team has its day. Arky had it with LSU and Bama. Not like how South Bama and UCF had it with OSU. Even while playing one of their worst games they still played us close. Unfortunately, I canât say the same about our South Bama and UCF games though.
This is the kind of delusional comments you make. âI donât think the coaching staff looks at it as a serious problem.â You have never attended an OSU coaches meeting. You donât go to practices. It doesnât matter what side of the fence you stand on the coaching staff, every staff evaluates film and discerns why breakdowns during a game happen. Was it player performance? Was it the opposing player performance? Was it scheme? etc
Its not that people donât see it. Its just that too many fans are satisfied with making a bowl game. Theyâll gladly give up championship aspirations to not risk returning to the Bob Simmons 4-7 days.
How do you believe the fans have any control over the outcomes of games or who coaches the team? Weiberg is not going to fire Gundy when he would owe him $17M and next year he is trying to figure out how to pay athletes more money next year.
Regarding this recent game?
Depends to be honest. The coaching staff is supposed to place the players in the best possible position to win the game. Your players canât perform well at something theyâre not good at. We didnât do that until we were towards the end of the third quarter.
Arkansas literally had two players that gouged us. The QB and RB. Luckily ball security and penalties donât seem to be a concern in Fayetteville, as well as field goal kicking.
Our defense proved they couldnât stop EITHER the pass or run. As I said in another thread. You might as well rush six defenders and gamble with your coverage on 3rd and long. If you canât stop the pass with 7-8 in coverage you might as well try to plug the run at least.
Arkansas was getting 10 yard gains or more up the gut and opening huge gaps. Might as well stuff it or bring pressure on the QB. We didnât do that enough imo. Of course, since implementing the 3-3-5 it doesnât surprise me. In order to run an effective 3-3-5 you need at least one NFL caliber Defensive Lineman up front. We donât have that at all. The reason Iowa State got away with their offshoot of a 3-3-5 was because they had Will McDonald in the middle of it all (15th pick overall).
aix_xpert Made a great point in another thread. Dickey and Dunn arenât compatible or complimentary to each other in scheming for the run game. I honestly think receiver is the strength of this team and we need to spread out more. That proved to be effective late in the game and even Gundy himself said this before the season started.
Even though it wasnât as bad this game compared to others we literally have almost no red zone offense. That was better in the fourth quarter, but why we wait around for three quarters to figure that out is beyond me. They had to of known that Arkansas was going to force Bowman to beat them before the game even started. I said this is an earlier post. For whatever reason Dunnâs scheming against OU has been pretty good, but if itâs any other team it just seems to be predictable and lethargic.
I think everyone is missing the overall point here though. We just had the second worst team from the SEC (according to last yearâs results) come in here and double OSU on yardage and made it look easy. Had it not been for the second worst SEC team playing what might be one of the worst games of their season (in the special teams and turnover categories) theyâre more than likely walking out of Stillwater with a double digit victory.
That tells me more about the current state of a supposed Big 12 title contender than it does about an SEC bottom dweller. Maybe Iâm wrong and Arkansas pulls off a 7-5 or something. Time will tell. Iâm glad weâre 2-0 and not 1-1. However, Iâm not going to remain ignorant to the fact that our coaching staff and program has some huge problems that need to be solved in a hurry. Jim Traber said the exact same thing yesterday.
We donât have to validate anything lol. Gundy has validated it the last 20 years. Heâs not good enough. Plain and simple. Just another year of more settled dust in the trophy case. Lots of participation trophyâs in their but thatâs champion ship case hasnât been open since 2011 one time in 20 years. You guys can spin it how you want but in the real world thatâs called not good.
I think itâs funny when you guys get mad that OSU didnât win by enough points.
Because it matters how much you win by.
Chris is cool with going 2-2 to start off the year? And happy that they reeled of 5 wins and ultimately no big twelve championship and no playoff. This gets people excited? This is winning?maybe this generation doesnât know what winning was supposed to be. Not sure this generation knows up from down. Crazy. Itâs a football game! The coach gets way overpaid millions of dollars to beat the other teams and play for championships! Thatâs it. Gundy has failed at that. Itâs the truth. I donât care if you donât like it. Itâs a GAME. Gundy needs to be fired. Itâs been time to move on years ago. SOS.
Hahahahaha, thatâs funny.
This generation? Iâm 57
Hahahahaha
You might want to pay attention to what my post says. Itâs not about OSU ânot winning by enoughâ. Itâs the fact that one of the bottom dweller SEC teams had to lose the turnover, special teams, and penalty battles badly just so OSU could win in OT on their own field.
Having zero points, 77 yards, and 0-6 third down conversions on offense in the first half of a football game is completely unacceptable. Especially when you have the 15th highest paid OC in the country. As an OSU fan you should expect better results, and no reasonable person would blame you for doing so.
We offer contract extensions with more money too when we donât meet expectations at the end of the season.
So you expect better resultsâŚwhat are you going to about it?
The penalty battle? Arkansas had 7-71 and OSU had 6-60 and OSU had a TD wiped out and a 10 yard unsportsmanlike penalty in the red zone.
Hey champ,
The only way you can make your voice heard is to stop watching the games instead of hate watching every game and driving up engagement on a fansite. Thatâs the limit of your influence and you will never use it, so why not just spare everyone? Hope that helps.
