Most if not all of this is plausible. The other factor is the significant donors withholding money so they can get their way. If true well that is a recipe for disaster. Just because you have money doesn’t mean you know how to make a football program successful from a winning perspective. Look no further than Jerry Jones for a good example of that.
Boone didn’t withhold anything. His investment got him one conference title in 20 years under Gundy. Explain to me how donors can see the results of that investment, and you can’t? How about returning 19 starters and not winning a single conference game? Explain to me how any logical or reasonable person is willing to invest in a person that does this?
Indiana, historically speaking, was the worst P4 program in the country. They’re currently #2 in the country and hired a guy that knows what he’s doing. A guy that’s more focused on coaching instead of fighting with fans and his administration. I’d say the people that do have money (especially Indiana) have something figured out
.
That’s the impression I get, yes.
Grantham was a bad fit, but I don’t think it’s his age or lack of ability (with one caveat). He was running a similar defense to what Kirby Smart runs, but it’s a very complex defense with a whole new roster and many of whom only got here in June. It was too complicated for that kind of turnover without him being able to bring in any of “his players” to bring some knowledge, stability, and leadership. My one caveat about his ability is that the missed tackles has nothing to do with complexity. Maybe that’s on position coaches, but DC ought to have gotten that fixed.
This is what floored me - when MG realized the BOR was serious HE fired EVERYONE (I guess except ST coach Snyder). I was shocked - WHY? Tantrum? Hissyfit? So many solid coaches and he cleaned house. Why? The problem was clearly the coordinators.

I suspect he was told to clean house.
