Alan Bowman Still 'The Guy' for Oklahoma State After Benching

‘We know Bowman’s the guy going forward. It was no big deal to us.’

“It’s no big deal to us” may subjectively be true for Gundy, but objectively benching your starter for over a quarter at a point in time where it’s a one score game against what’s believed to be your biggest threat to a conference championship is a very big thing.

Edit: Initially misread the article - Presley said this, not Gundy. Appreciate BP’s perspective, but stand by that it’s a big deal.

He should probably treat his OC and OL coach like that. After all, he’s the genius that keeps retaining them. Then wonders why his returning production looks worse :man_shrugging:?

Was looking for Flores in the 4th… Thought he was going back to the three headed quarterback thing that worked out so well last year.

Except Presley said this, not Gundy.

Strange how Gunnar Gundy saw the field on several occasions last season. Then, we don’t put our highly recruited QB in at all? Not even for a series?

That’s the problem with Mike Gundy. He’ll keep talent benched just so he doesn’t have to be wrong, and continue to stroke his own ego as Pat Jones 2.0.

Bowman gets the blame, not Gundy, unless we want to blame Gundy for picking Bowman from the recycling bin. Looked like Bowman was running afraid and same mistakes as last year. Leaving the pocket too soon and throwing on the run. Frightening to know Rengel is our backup.
This is the best roster we will have for awhile, considering how many guys have no more eligibility. So this season has to be make hay while the sun shines. Gundy sounds frustrated with the offensive game planning. We hope this means the Kasey Dunn experiment is over.
I admit I was wrong predicting that Utah would beat us by a big margin. I had no idea our defense could play so well. That cools Nardo’s hot seat.

Thanks for pointing that out! Makes me feel better about that quote.

I really don’t blame Dunn for this loss. How many times did we have guys open and then the QB just missed them? All he can do his call the plays someone has to be able to throw the freaking football. That was an embarrassing loss and should’ve been a game that springboarded us into big 12 favorites. Now we’re wondering if we even have a QB that can complete a pass.

Who do you blame for a below average QB?
How about a below average line? Dunn has brought in great receivers, but no one to throw to.

I agree with this take. Dunn was a great receivers coach, and still is. He’s just not cut out for the OC position. His game plans are horrible and play calling is even worse. We gave him his shot, now it’s time to do something else. If he wants to stay, let him stay as a receivers coach… I’m fine with that. We need a play caller that has a feel for a balanced offense and can come up with a plan to put the ball in the playmaker’s hands.
