Sucks to lose him but I understand. Best of luck to him.

It’s a huge loss for oSu and the fans. He probably needs time to back to full strength when it comes time for the NFL draft.I am grateful he played at oSu and wish him the best going forward. His presence in the middle will be missed.

Several thoughts:

  1. Love Evers and what he has represented up to this day. This decision is a mistake;
  2. Evers won’t get drafted, but will get a chance as an free agent;
  3. Quitting this team now is not going to help his draft prospects;
  4. He hasn’t been particularly effective this season – maybe because he’s been dinged up;
  5. All for giving Clay and Kelley more looks on the inside.

Couldn’t have said it better

I don’t understand this either. Believe me I’m for player choices, but this I don’t understand unless there is some injury that we do not know the full extent. I would understand it better if we were not in contention. If we were 4-3, like the gooners, then it would make more sense. I still wish him the best, but it seems a bit odd on the timing.

Interesting notes here: the Oklahoma states that he is stepping away because of a shoulder injury that he needs to get fixed and he is quoted on it. Evers statement in this article does not mention injury. As well, this article talks about him being banged up during his career, but does not address his current state.

Ok never say never but I wouldn’t think Evers would just leave in the middle of a critical point of the season unless there are injuries involved.

Interesting as well, he thanks many coaches including Knowles but not Mason…

I wonder if there is some sorta of rift with Mason? If there is I wasn’t very high on his hire. I wish we could had offered a huge contract for Knowles. Very very intelligent coordinator. I love and miss the 4-2-5 defense.

The extra million that it would take to keep Knowles instead went to Glass, the fitness guru. But I think Knowles wanted to have a chance to coach a potential NCAA championship team. I don’t think he left because of money.
As Gundy recently said, players don’t want their injuries made public because it could hurt their chances for the NFL. If Evers has been banged up a lot during his career, I doubt that the NFL will draft him. My guess is that his injury forces him to sit out the rest of the season, but he does not want the NFL to know that. A player intent on going to the NFL who is healthy does not drop out in the middle of the season.

Just another hurt guy. Get those younger guys in.

If his shoulder needs fixing he should do it after the season I appreciate his years here and commitment but he isn’t getting drafted. If he does it surprises me. Play the youngsters

He did mention prayers and consideration from family, coaches and medical staff. The medical staff input might have been the most influential. Timing is not good but we have some horses that just need to step up! It was a little bothersome to me that he mentioned Knowles and not Mason on his list of thanks.

It is huge, yes, but mostly in that he weighs 295! He has stayed dinged up, mitigating his effectiveness, for most of his career. If he needs the time to simply get healthy for whatever NFL prospects he might have, power to him.

Next man up!! GO POKES!! Good luck to Brandon in all that he does. :cowboy_hat_face: :football: :cowboy_hat_face: :football: :cowboy_hat_face:

We always look at the NFL based on whether a player makes the roster and what stats he accrues. I just googled practice squad players and they make 11,500 per week or 207,000 during a season. Remember our WR Lacy? Well he has bounced around NFL practice squads for a few years now. Be nice to be 27 years old and have already grossed a million bucks. So, I guess it’s all part of it. Can’t really blame him.

I hope we run uptempo flat out. OL show some dam mean, some nasty in you !! I think that’s what we lack with this unit. We play uptempo, Texas will be gassed by middle of the 3rd quarter

Wish the young man the best wishes for his future. Will not speculate on his injuries or his potential as I am neither a doctor nor informed on his medical history and I am also not a NFL team executive who can give an evaluation of his potential.

Nope. You don’t quit on your buddies in the trench during the season. (I know, I’m mixing metaphors.) Show integrity and finish the season. Man freakin’ up.
