Has anybody got the inside scoop on why the whole team left except Heard? Surely it wasn’t as simple as they could all make significantly more money elsewhere. Hoyt did an amazing job recruiting the portal, but what was the reason for all those girls bailing out?

I have no insider knowledge, but when they all leave and then you spend a ton in the portal to get a top tier class, I tend to think Hoyt gave them all their walking papers and went for an upgrade. Which, in reality looks like, “hey, you underperformed your NIL, we’re going to reduce it, you can go if you want to or you can stay for less”.

  1. Heard is the definition of loyal and true. She should remembered for that.
  2. I have no inside knowledge either but when Wooten left it just seemed to snowball with Akon then leaving. It was really weird.

Just wanted to follow up a few days later with my two cents on what has been a really weird roster turnover. We asked Hoyt about it last week and based on her answer it sounds like she knew several players were planning to leave well before the season ended.

She didn’t elaborate on why. I would guess several had different reasons, but everyone who has worked some place where multiple employees grumbled or felt underappreciated probably gets the idea that those feelings tend to spread if more than one person feels that way. Not saying that happened with the Cowgirls, but it would make sense if some of them felt like they were worth more that others might get similar ideas.

I do strongly wonder if Akot was in line to come back based on how Hoyt praised her, but then she exploded late and her value both in reality and inside her head probably surged causing her to leave.

I think OSU came out ahead based on who joined, but a little more continuity would have been good for the program.
