‘Obviously, you know, as a competitor, you’re always chasing that. And the bar is set pretty high.’
Overall, I thought he did a solid interview. It was a bit odd not seeing Gundy at the podium, but it was a breath of fresh air this program needed.
The king is dead. Long live the king. OTOH, one reason the dead king died is because he thought he was a king and not a coach.
“And the bar is set pretty high.”
Not exactly. He could win 6 games every year and some of our “fans” (HeyChamp and Michael13 come to mind) would want to give him a million dollar pay raise every year for just being one of the 80 teams out of 136 that makes a bowl game
.
Ok, well, Gundy averaged 8 and a half wins a year, so if Morris does that, then yes, he’ll be deserving of a nice contract. If he can do it for 20 years, sign me up now. Gundy’s first and last years were the only ones he won fewer than six regular season games (won at least seven every other year counting bowls), so yeah, if six wins is your floor for almost 20 years, that’s pretty ■■■■ good.
The thing is Morris knows the expectations should be better. He’s just not saying it out loud. I’m pretty sure he doesn’t seriously think that winning the conference once in two decades means a program has arrived
. Like I said, you just confirmed what I already knew. You don’t care about anything but bowl eligibility. Which is exactly why we need better fans. Otherwise, we stay in this perpetual cycle of “just be good enough to get to six wins”. Hopefully Eric Morris doesn’t truly think like the rest of you pathetic losers do
.
Hey champ,
As I explained, but you’re illiterate, that wasn’t the Gundy standard. His down years were bowl eligibility years. His up years were NY6 wins, 10 win seasons, etc. Yes, it would have been great to win the conference a bunch, but anyone not named OU was really doing that.
You only pick things out of context that push your narrative. Are we going to forget 4-20 (0-18)? Also, the standard should never be 6 wins. We did that for 20 years and it did nothing to make the program better (like winning the conference or making CFP). In fact, all it did was make sure we become worse in a less competitive conference.
Nobody said it had to be a bunch. K State did it twice and Baylor did it three times during the Gundy era. I’m sure Eric Morris could’ve done at least that
.
You moron keep my name out of your mouth if you think I was proud of 6 wins in a season. The 8-9,and 12 win seasons were worth talking about. You only think winning the championship is reason to celebrate. You’re kind of warped in the mind
Illiterate thinking is your problem. You still want to hang on Gundys nut sack,he is gone,it’s over. Move on to a subject worth talking about. You only want to argue
I believe you said we were “still winning” but couldn’t specify exactly what we won that had any significant importance in those 6-6 seasons.
So we celebrate anyway if we don’t win one? That sounds like a person that’s just happy to be there. Which is what Gundy got used to saying since he didn’t win championships (plural).
Can you tell us the years we had as a goal of 8-9 or 12 wins? I do remember a few players and a lot of fans claiming "making a bowl” as their goal. Early on Gundy would say their goal was to win the Big 12 but quit saying it because he couldn’t win it. Gundy loved to brag about how many times he had been a bridesmaid knowing he would never be a bride.
You two clowns should move on, everyone else has. Both of you know Gundy lifted us well above our norm. Sure he screwed us at the end buy I enjoyed winning 10 games 4 out of 5 years and a 12 game season. When did we ever reach those heights. Keep sucking your thumbs jug, maybe you can tell Weinberg how to run a ship, being you told Holder “ off “ you moron Joe will continue to rehash Gundy far into next year. He’s been a buffoon all his life. I highly doubt you two dolts have ever won anything in your lives ![]()
In the 80’s we enjoyed winning 10 games 3 out of 5 years (when there was 1 less game per season)
The coach right before Gundy went to a bowl every year except his first. Yet none of that is ever brought up or remembered by y’all or anyone else cause championships are what counts.
Why wouldn’t I compare the new coach to the “greatest coach in school history”? I’m willing to bet Eric Morris would win the conference more than once every 20 years if we are ever fortunate enough to hold onto him that long. I’m also willing to bet we’re not going to be 4-20 over the next two years either
.
Who would bet with you ? You backtrack on bets and don’t keep your word so ![]()
Miles was like Gundy then, he was hungry. I don’t remember Miles winning 10 games even with some thugs
No I wouldn’t. I bet one of our fans on here and paid him. He even confirmed it with you. It’s not my fault you conveniently ignore what doesn’t fit your narrative
.
Like I said before, you conveniently ignore facts to fit your narrative. Miles wasn’t given improved facilities or a boat load of money during his time here. OU and Texas were also better programs during Miles career than they were during most of Gundy’s career.
That’s the difference. One coach was doing his best to win with less resources in a conference loaded with talent. While another coach was given more resources in a conference where talent started to dwindle
.
I think he’s referring to the time you were supposed to delete your account and never come back and you just made a new account.
