Was really hoping we wouldn’t make it. Now, Kam and I have an extra night of working concessions. F—k.

What kind of tournament invites teams with a losing record?
This is like bowl games in football having teams with more losses than wins. It’s meaningless. Send your losers to Disneyland if you want to reward them for a subpar season.

That’s why the NIT is commonly referred to as the “Not Invited Tournament” or “Not Important Tournament”.

The first possible red-flag for Lutz is him saying “This team should be rewarded.” The fact that Lutz said this team deserved a chance to keep playing this season just makes me sick. This program is dead if that’s the mindset.

Why? You don’t know how hard they worked. You can make yourself better, but Joe Sixpack can’t make himself LeBron James. The team lacks talent. Maybe they could’ve won a game more here or there in a wild transition year, but they weren’t a tournament team. Our top two scorers were 28th and 29th in the Big XII in scoring as seniors. There’s not a lot of room for growth there.

The NIT is a participation trophy. You can say it shouldn’t exist, but it does. They don’t even deserve a meaningless participation trophy? They didn’t give up on the coach or the team, let them play their exhibition tournament.

If the team wanting to play a little extra ball is that painful for y’all, you know you can just not watch, right?

The only time it makes sense to not accept the invite is if the team was clearly snubbed and should have made the NCAA tournament. Most of these guys will be done playing ball after the season and this will probably be their last chance to play a somewhat meaningful game(s). Lutz is correct that it would be a slap in their face to not accept. This has no bearing whatsoever on how Lutz or the program performs moving forward and it’s comical to think it’s some “red flag”.

I swear y’all need to go be fans for some other program.

I’d go further and say there’s almost nothing to be learned from this season. Lutz was hired late, he patched a team together from the smoking remains of our once proud program with some scrap heap pieces, and there is no continuity from previous years and there won’t be much next year. For all intents and purposes, next year is Year One: he’ll have some of his recruits, he’ll have his own transfers that he got to court, and he’ll start laying a foundation for his style of ball. This year was a lost season.

I won’t be watching. I’m WORKING CONCESSIONS. Which I DID NOT want to do tonight!

Ok, this is fair. :joy:

Oh, Avery opted out? This clown was an underachieving head case his entire collegiate career and now he’s too good to play?

Good riddance.
