We don’t have to guess as to god’s motivation regarding directing Abraham to sacrifice Isaac. It is made clear in Genesis 22:12. “Now I know you fear me”. Not love, respect, or worship, or appreciate, but fear. To be clear god wanted to make sure that Abraham was so afraid of him that Abraham would kill his son rather than risk god’s wrath. Imagine how afraid you must be to do something so sinister. Its weird that this act is idolized at all.
