Daily Bullets (Oct. 20): Night Game in Ames, Expedited Timelines with a Touted QB

Thanks for stopping by - here’s your daily dose of Oklahoma State sports news.

The NFL has adjusted to NIL. There are no more Brock Purdy’s on a $900,000 rookie contract.

If the scouts are right, Drew is looking at $30 million signing bonus (very low projection, probably 40+) not to mention his actual contract. A little different than the 2-3 or whatever he is getting now and hard to pass. Dante Moore is living proof he needs to go pro. Imagine staying and having Oregon’s season.

The good news is this QB class is deep. The bad news is Drew is way better than all of them

Exactly, if he goes through the draft process and is graded a 1st round pick, then he needs to go. That’s the equivalent of sitting on a lotto ticket.

Sorry, but he is NOT better than Trinidad Chambliss.

Maybe not today, but he certainly has a higher ceiling. He’s also 4 years younger

Chambliss is also 6 foot nothing. That matters to scouts. Shorter QBs tend to struggle. Drew Brees had a steep learning curve to the point the Chargers gave up on him. Bryce Young had a steep learning curve to the point the Panthers almost gave up on him. Kyler Murray got drafted #1, Bryce Young got drafted #1 and they’re under 6 feet, so it’s not impossible, but there will be teams that will drop Chambliss on their draft board for his height alone because it is an impediment to his success and it’s one you can’t coach out of him.

Mestemaker has prototypical size at 6’3" and he has excellent pocket presence and he’s got a strong arm and he’s accurate and he has a short memory and he can get through his progressions and he has mobility and he can read a defense. Yes, he has flaws (turnovers, experience) but his measurables are exactly what you want and he has shown himself to be a smart, savvy QB. Unless this season goes pear-shaped, he’s going to get drafted in the first round and I think he will appeal to most NFL scouts more than Chambliss.
