Taylor is bringing back an OSU alum to be on staff.
Man I heard that he would walk you around West Point, been wanting to make a trip
To see if that was true. Glad to have him back at any rate.
Wow, totally out of nowhere.
I thought for sure DT would bring in some former super star wrestler to fill the vacancy. What has Army wrestling ever accomplished?
What a moron
So, I am confused by a couple of comments.
Tashian - I do not know where it is written that the best (superstar) wrestler makes the best coach. Assuming that Kevin Ward must be a great teacher. Maybe he picked up something in the wrestling room when he was at OSU during the glory days (four straight national champs). He clearly was not an NCAA champ, but something clicked.
Not - who are you referring to a “moron”? Tashian or DT? Assuming it is Tashian.
The Chamer is (sadly) not a place for logic
For years I have posted that Cowboy wrestling needed new blood for coaches, rather than former Cowboy wrestlers. So I expected DT to hire someone from a highly successful program, or else a super star former wrestler. I suppose following Cowboy wrestling since 1966 might have caused some wires in my brain to short circuit and thus be considered a moron.
Granted, creating a winning wrestling program at Army would be difficult for any coach. So DT must have based his choice on something other than wins and losses.
The more I think about it, maybe I am a moron because in 1968 I saw the lights of Gallagher Hall while bridging my head trying to avoid being pinned by a guy weighing over 150 lbs when I weighed 107 lbs in the finals of the intramural tournament in the dormitory division. This might have scrambled my brain, causing me to not bleed orange.
Taishan
No issues there. Like anyone else, I want coaches who are good recruiters and/or good teaching technicians.
I like you have been following OSU wrestling since I was a small child. I had a great aunt who worked in the athletic department from the early 60’s until the late 70’s. She was an avid wrestling fan and kept notecards on each individual wrestler. She taught me to be a fan. I applaud you staying with wrestling. I gave it up in 9th grade.
Unfortunately, my time as a student at OSU coincided with the Joe Seay era and while we were really good, Gable and his crew in Iowa were dominating things. I did get to see LeeRoy and Rick Stewart have stellar careers.
I am glad that OSU (or at least Chad Richison) are elevating OSU back to its appropriate status and am hopeful that DT can take us there. I am also totally trusting that he has a plan for everyone (coach and wrestler) that he brings into the program.
I am a third generation AGGIE, so I have had to hold on to wrestling and Men’s golf as the bastion of championships for my alma mater.
Before someone corrects me, I was there during the Chesbro era, not Seay. My younger brother was there during Seay’s time. A little better but not much.
So now that DT is showing that he doesn’t follow your impeccable logic for hiring an assistant coach it seems that proves that he is unable to function adequately as a head coach. Maybe you should give him a call and ask him to step down before things get ugly. It’s not like we saw an order of magnitude improvement in the team in his first year. I mean 2 individual national champs and a runner up and 3rd place for the team. He really needs to go. SMH
I too was there while Chesbro was the coach. TBH I never followed how they did regarding conference and national titles, actually I may have but the years may have erased those memories… I did go to all the matches and they were fantastic.
Sports fans, man.
