‘This place mean the world to me.’
I’m going to guess Gundy was doing some heavy drinking when he fired Richmond. All this guy did was take average talent and yielded better results with it during his time in Stillwater. Then we hired guys that gave us our worst run defense we’ve ever had
.
The more I look back, the more I think that Gundy probably didn’t have a word in the firing of Richmond . It feels like the last 3-5 years of Gundy’s tenure, he stepped further and further away from the program and just let his coordinator hires (many of whom were duds) do the work. He’d always been detached from the defense, even when he was a younger head coach, and based on how long Dunn held the reins even while throwing out years of mediocre offenses, I think Gundy just grew comfortable in how the coaches ran things.
I agree he probably doesn’t need to have his hands on everything. However, you better give me a dam good reason of why you want to get rid of one of the better coaches on the staff. You’re probably right though. Recent coordinators probably made decisions that were quirky and Gundy just kind of went along with the ride. Until his coordinators and himself were fired.
Welcome home, Greg.
Welcome back, brother! Many of us shook our heads when Mike Dumby fired Richmond. ![]()
B$, he’s the top dog and has the final call. All on Dumby!
