Five Thoughts on Oklahoma State's 60-47 Loss to Houston

On too many missed shots, a matchup nightmare and what Kelvin Sampson had to say about Steve Lutz.

The shooting percentages are inexcusable. And shooting is the most natural act of basketball. From the time a kid is 3 years old and gets their first mini-hoop, what do they do?! Shoot. Dribbling, passing, rebounding and defense all have to be taught, but shooting is an instinctual thing. Why, for the past several years, can OSU basketball teams not shoot the ball well?! Particularly at home. I say we get two new basketball goals for GIA.

We just do not have the talent to compete. Hopefully Lutz can get some dudes for next year.

If you aren’t disciplined enough to keep your jersey tucked in your shorts, how you are you going to be disciplined enough to protect the ball?

We look sloppy. We play sloppy.

Because Steph Curry has ruined basketball. Everyone thinks they can jack up 3s. Kids grow up shooting 3s rather than learning the basics of basketball but also the basics of how to shoot. Coaching has also gotten lazy. That’s why Jelvin Sampson has consistently one of the best teams. For him to pass praise to Lutz gives me hope.

I’m serious, we need to remove the both baskets and the polls they hang on and burn sage in the Arena to remove the evil spirits in this place. There is bad juju on these goals for our guys and has been this way for quite some time. It’s unexplainable. Never seen a Hometeam shoot so bad on their home court over so many years.

Houston is going to make a LOT of teams shoot poorly. They’re just EVERYWHERE defensively! Even the layups are sketchy when they’re swatting at everything you put up. That being said, the poor shooting was atrocious. That had BETTER be a one-off thing due to holidays, or UH defense, or the aforementioned evil spirts. Whatever it is - it’s gotta go!!
GO POKES!

My five thoughts-

We have no shooting
We have no shooting
We have no shooting
We are too small
We suck.

I’ll bite since you’ve been complaining about this nonsense for the past two games. They do tuck their jerseys back in, just not as quickly as you’d like, apparently. This is the very LEAST of our problems. I would love to see Lutz’s response if somebody asked him about this during a presser.

I know of only one way to have a team that can shoot against good teams. Get talented players who are tall enough and weigh enough to compete in the Big 12. Hard to recruit talent to a team destined to again finish at or near bottom of conference. Lutz will eventually shine again, but in a different conference.

He was brought in late and our program was/still is in the shitter. Hopefully we can get some recruits for next year but I guess we will see.

People seem to forget what real defense is like. Kelvin plays that way from years ago, he and Eddie had epic battles
We have no height or weight but that doesn’t excuse missing so many bunnies Hopefully the karma turns around and we can’t miss…we do hustle and play hard

Fair enough.

I’m old (59) and old school. I subscribe to the theory of how you do one thing is how you do every thing.

I’ll guarantee you Eddie would have none of that.

I think that evil spirit is Mike Holder who set this program back decades.
