On two killer runs, a tough reality and more.
It’s 7 years in a row of the same thing. Oh we’re young, oh we’re getting better. No. Were not. We’ve seen this for the last 6 years. How about winning games. All the other crap doesn’t matter. They lost. All they do is lose. This is just a fluff post full of excuses. 7 years of excuses. The guy has 2 McDonald’s all Americans a guy who played on team USA numerous 4 stars and can’t win, and this is the article we get, full of excuses. I see why this program is in the dump. Literally no one from admin to reporters want to hold his horrid coaching accountable. He Has gotten big time players every year and can’t win. They will get absolutely abused in big 12 play. “Maybe I should have used a second timeout”. You think? Are you kidding me? Nah just let them go on an 17-0. Hold the time out. And the guys who get to ask him questions just let him get away with those ridiculous answers. How many double digit runs do teams need to go on before he realizes he might need to burn a time out, maybe, god forbid, more than 1. Again it’s the same crap every year. And the dude hasnt learned when to call a time out. The reason he doesn’t call a time out to stop a run is because he has no idea how to stop it. He can’t draw up a play, his team can’t run a half court offense, so what exactly is he going to tell them in a time out? Dribble for 25 seconds and fire up a 3. Continues to play John Michael Wright who can’t hit a shot, Bryce Thompson has regressed since he joined the team. His players don’t improve. he is more worried about being their. friend than he is winning games.
I watched the game until about 5 minutes into the 2nd period. Turned the game off as I could see that the teams play wasn’t even close to getting the job done. I know zero about basketball when it comes to how to coach it, manage games, etc so I’m not going to comment on what the problems are since I have no clue. I will say that the eye test tells me that OSU basketball looks to be in for a rough season. Hope I am wrong as I really want the coaches/team to succeed.
I remember Coach (Eddie) Sutton stating multiple times, “we won’t lose at home. There’s never an excuse for losing at home.”
There is a sinking feeling knowing that, after this Saturday and after the ensuing chaos of portal announcements and finally a bowl game around Dec. 31, we’re going to be left to this.
PFB Staff:
Can you do an article on which school’s coaches we should be watching this year as potential hires? Its clear the current staff isn’t going to get it done here. I love Boynton’s passion and recruiting. I love how he represents the university. He says all the right things. But unfortunately, the sample size is large enough to know the man can’t coach to the level expected for OSU MBB and it will be time to move on next spring.
He’ll do the typical thing of “turning things around” about halfway into the season when they have no shot at the tournament and everyone will be positive about how the team is developing.
I guess it’s okay for a player to say we’re a young team and improving, but I don’t want to hear that from the coaches. This is the roster you assembled and you should have used the portal better if you didn’t want a young team. I don’t care if you’re playing the #1 team in the country you should be more competitive at home. I think it’s pretty simple, no NCAA tournament, no reason to keep going down this same path. Last night I could watch Dallas Cowboys, Thunder, or Oklahoma State basketball. You have to play better basketball to grab people’s attention. I really like Mike Boynton the man, but unfortunately I think Chad will need to be looking for a slam dunk with his next hire.
"…we’re getting a lot better. I don’t care what nobody says. I see the potential in our team, and I see the growth that we overcome. We’re getting a lot better, and that’s what we’re going to continue to do.”
Can really appreciate this from your floor leader. I have to agree!
GO POKES!
Last night showed we don’t have the talent to compete with really good teams. This suggests we are going to get embarrassed in Big 12 games. We can’t rebound at either end of the court. One and done shooting. When I heard we would be playing Creighton, I thought we would lose by 30. How come Creighton can recruit those kind of shooters, but we can’t? Comes down to our coach. I think, depending on how much his buyout is, he’s gone after this season.
