Five Thoughts on Oklahoma State's 80-65 Loss to Oklahoma

Thoughts on a bad night in OKC for the Pokes.

We have no size and don’t handle the ball well
That asz kicking will be the norm going forward unless they get a lot better

Can’t start slow against good teams like OU (I hate typing that).
Hopefully they’ll continue to improve.

Oh no… he can’t beat OU, 75% of this community wants him fired now.

Who needs 5 thoughts when 1 will do. Ugly.

Our starters scored 23 points.

Ousmane looks like Tarzen, plays like Jane.

I like Lutz tho’. He will get it right. Make take a year or two.

The coaching is good but the talent of the players is not good enough to win in Big 12. Recruiting will be difficult since we probably will finish at or near bottom again. A good team if not in the Big 12. Would succeed if at Western Kentucky.

We just simply do not have the players to compete. We will get slapped around in conference play because we lack the talent required. Hopefully Lutz can get some NIL for next year and hit the portal hard.

I. Still waiting for the blistering speed on “O.” You can still push after a made-bucket.
2. The half-court “O” is indecipherable. The coaches should have taken a clue from the middle screen that OU was killing us with.
3. What happened to Bryce Thompson? At least he can make his own shot.

The game looked and felt like a lot of the games last year. We simply weren’t as good as the opponent talent wise, and we have no identity to hang our hat on.

Bryce Thompson has been an anchor to our offensive play since he arrived here - he can’t create his own shot, and isn’t athletic enough to get his shot off when he penetrates.
Up until last night I had been impressed with the game to game improvement Lutz had achieved with this team. I think last night he experimented with some new lineup pairings which were quite frankly head-scratchers. For example, at one point he had Brantley, Dean and Davis in the same lineup - none of those guys are good shooters, so the defense was able to sag back and clog the lane.
I hope starting conference play he utilizes Dean, Newman, Avery, Jennings and Ouisman as his main lineup.

I observe that Bryce doesn’t finish at the bucket, shoots <35% from 3, but seems able to drive and pop mid-range jumpers from 12 to 15 feet.

This doesn’t get other people involved, but we scored only 26 points in the first half!!

Ousmane has actually been very good. Scouting obviously showed it would benefit teams to double team him, which OU did. He will now need to learn to immediately throw it back out. He did this at least once late in the game for an open three.

We were mostly stagnant on offense in this game unlike previously. It was obvious and Lutz spoke to this. He was pretty hot about it as well as about the general effort. I like the guy and I think he will do well. This generation of players needs a coach who can relate to the players but will also not put up with bs. That’s Lutz.

He hasn’t had a chance to really show his recruiting chops yet. With NIL and transfers, he could turn us around pretty fast.

My 5 thoughts from watching the game-
We suck
We cant shoot
We suck
We are small
We lack talent

It is no big deal though. This is a transition year with a new coach who had to scramble to put together a team of no stars. Next year wont be much better but the 3rd year should be the year we turn it around so we can be competitive.

Yea but the only problem as most of the players on this team are gone after this year. Currently we have no future regarding up and coming players after this year is done.
