On the road win, Quion Williams’ resurgence and more.
Win 4 straight and then we’ll talk about jumping back on the bandwagon…
Nah don’t jump on, just keep walkin
Players aren’t the issue. It’s the lack of coaching that was the issue from the beginning of the season. Better coaching and the lineup would’ve looked like it has much earlier. Better coaching would’ve prevented the 0-5 or 7 or whatever start to conference play. So it’s not the players that had to refill the bandwagon. It’s coaching that had that responsibility.
This is typical of boynton’s teams play bad at first of season play well in the middle of season and drop off late. It’s been this way the whole time he’s been there. Problem is the starts have been so bad that they never seem to get themselves back in turny talk and always on the outside looking end.
Naysayers, please, crawl back in your negative holes! Well done Mike Boynton and team! I stand 100% with you and for you! GO POKES!
Oh Brother Harlan, be careful with positive words. Those don’t lie well with many of these posters. The thought has occurred to me that if we look at the OSU sports scene holistically, we are great in so many sports and the football team is relevant nationally. Perhaps we as OSU fans should bask in the glory of the strength of our whole program and live with a basketball coach who is absolutely a great man in all things but the win loss record. If keeping Boynton means all of these freshman and sophomores come back next year, then keep him. No guarantee that will happen but something to think about.
“On top of that, the Bearcats had 40 minutes played by players 6-10 or taller to OSU’s 31”
- Daily, 6’8" - 14 minutes
- Marsh, 6’10" - 3 minutes
- McBride, 6’8" - 0 minutes
- Miranda, 7’0" - Oh yea, gone
Almost makes me think Kasey Dunn was taking advice from Boynton last season.
I don’t. Maybe the players, but not Boynton. I’m tired of hearing excuses as to why none of his players focus on refining what they’re good at. Instead, they decide to continue being bad at what they’re bad at. Maybe Boynton’s told them this, but at the end of the day the responsibility for team performance (as a whole) falls on him. He’s just another Travis Ford. In fact, Ford was actually better. At least he could make the tournament more than once.
It’s not going to do any good if he can’t beat mteams like Abilene Christian, St. Bonaventure, or Southern Illinois. You can’t lose to teams like that and start off 0-6 in conference play. It won’t matter at all, and he doesn’t have the luxury to be start off bad like that. Even when he had Cade we started the first part of the season off crappy. This is the common theme with all his teams. He just needs to get the moving company in order and have his stuff ready to be hauled back to New York.
If he would just beat those three teams, started conference play at 2-4 then he’d be sitting with an 17-9 record overall and 6-7 in conference play. Instead, as consistent as his teams have been, they’ll find ways to barely lose to both good and chitty teams.
I like Boynton. He says the right things. He represents the school and community appropriately. The kids play hard for him. But for whatever reason he can’t figure out how to win with his talent until February. I’ll hate to see him leave, but I’m ready for him to go.
Since BT got injured and out for the season we have played well. Anyone else think the lineup of putting Keller starting should have been the starting lineup all season ? We will see how the rest of the season plays out
Well Done? They are in last place. Geez, what low expectations.
Wow, what low expectations some people have.
Agreed. Boynton’s biggest issue has been keeping kids around for them to gel as a team. Been watching osu hoops since Leonard Hamilton, and I can attest that even Eddie Sutton didn’t have great years when the team was laden with freshmen and sophomores. It took a year or two of them playing together to become what they could be.
If the greater portion of these kids stay here with Boynton kept at the helm, they could be pretty decent next year. He really hasn’t had a chance, given Covid and defections. Now, if kids are defecting because of frustration with the coaching, that could be something. But then again, kids in these days of instant gratification seldom stick around for anything if things aren’t going exactly their way. Hopefully this group is different.
I mostly agree with you Paul, but I’d note that defections and covid are the same issues that every coach in America has had to face, including a number of Big 12 ones. And they still find ways to make the tourney (or get fired).
That and a couple of seasons of recruiting a bunch of clowns Shooting BB guns at car windows, one going down University with his butt hanging out the window.
Poor decisions on guys that really weren’t players
