Five Thoughts on Oklahoma State's 84-80 Victory Against Davidson in the NIT

On Guetta’s heroics, suspensions and more.

There’s certain clowns on this forum that call coach Lutz “soft”. Well kudos to our “soft” coach for holding these guys accountable, especially when one of them is our best offensive player.

I don’t care if the NIT is “meaningless”, these are important minutes for the few guys that will hopefully be back next year. And it’s also important for Lutz as he continues to find and refine what it’s going to take to get this program back to national relevancy.

Do we know what exactly they did?

We won because we held Davidson to 30 points in the second half. It was, really, the first time this season I recall us looking like we knew how to play defense.

I am really impressed with Lutz’s integrity on this one. Trying to do something to build on for next year and suspending those guys?!? I think that bodes well for the program going forward. Agree with previous comment, they appeared to play some D in the second half to overcome a 13 point deficit. Good win. Go Pokes.

We’ll be better without Roy…

Is Roy hoping to be drafted? If so, expect better decision making from someone with so much on the line.

I think their referring to on the quart soft.

I think there might be a bit something to this (“on the court soft”). I have a running theory that our last few coaches, with the exception of Underwood (Lutz, Boynton, Ford), all came into a Big 12 coaching gig with a fair amount of success in softer mid-major programs and a lack of awareness of how to deal with the physical thuggery of the Big 12 and the conference’s uneven officiating.

I think Lutz is starting to figure it out. It will be telling to see if he can acclimate to the league style with portal recruiting and his coaching style next year. I’ve said it before that it appears the defense is coming together, and I think it’s a combination of the coaching and the players adjusting.

REALLY liking both Ragland and Ahmed and their post presence. Way ahead of where I would have expected them at this point. Losing Mille and Parsa really sucked, but this has been the silver lining. Hoping these guys all come back. The banging around in league games will only make us better next year.

This just tells me Lutz system works, you just have to have guys buy in. I believe we have found 8 who have.
