Five Thoughts on Oklahoma State's 84-82 Overtime Loss to Oklahoma

On the outstanding game, the plays that lost it for OSU and more.

lol. This team has a good of a chance at making the nit as the do the ncaa tournament, 0.

Pitiful

This game is the final nail for Boynton, and he didn’t even coach poorly. If he had managed another win over OU and somehow got this team to 8-10 in conference, given his contract buyout and the ability to point to team youth and end of year momentum, he’d potentially salvage one more season. But that loss makes 10 and we aren’t likely winning our next 4. So momentum for next year is likely out the window, and he can’t even hang his hat on his Bedlam success given this year’s sweep. At this point, about the only way I see MB keeing his job next year would be a run through the tourney to make the tourney, and with the depth and breadth of the teams at the top of this conference (Houston, KU, ISU), a tourney run feels very unlikely.

As I said in another post. I’ll hate to see him go, but I’m ready to see him leave.

He isn’t going anywhere.

If 3-pointers rule college ball, you must hit 40% on 3s to equal 60% on 2s. We are consistently 30% on 3s and 65% of 2s, so not even close. Yet they keep jacking it.

It’s great that they tried to get the ball to Garrison on the low post. However, it was clear early that he wasn’t going to have success with his back to Goodwin. Yet we didn’t adjust.

Yes, Small missed his free throws, but the play for the final shot was him dribbling to get his own shot. That is on the coaches, again.

Is he saving McBride for a redshirt? That doesn’t work in the NIL world. He looked ready whenever I saw him play.

Once again we had a prime example of how Boynton is not a good coach. On a planned play the OU coach showed that his guys had practiced for an out-of-bounds where the ball is lobbed right at the basket and one of his guys dunks it. That is something any good coach makes sure that his guys have practiced for that exact situation…and they executed it perfectly. When OSU got the opportunity at the end of regulation (it would have won the game for them) they didn’t even try it because they had not practiced for that situation. That falls on the coach not planning for a basic situation. Even high school coaches practice for that. It is an easy 2 points if you are ready for it. Boynton was not. So, you go into overtime and you lose. Time for him to go or you are going to lose some pretty good freshman to the portal.

“We all just witnessed a game we will talk about for a long time.”

You’re crazy. It was a good game to watch……between two very average teams. OU will be a 7/8 seed while OSU will be in the NIT. I’m an OU fan & forgot this game was even being played until 6 min left in the 2nd half. This game won’t be talked about next month, much less a “long time”

The Pokes are in last place. Average by who’s standards.

There’s not much separation between those bottom 4-6 teams. But I get your point

Missed free throw cost the game … Who could have possibly guessed?

We have a mediocre coach at his best, and an inept coach regardless. We have no rigor, we have discipline, we have no-in-your-jock-strap defense, but we are ■■■■ good at 1-2 passes and jack it from downtown!

I pray to God we terminate Boynton in April!
