Make it three straight blowout losses for the Pokes.
The sad part is that our “storied” history in basketball is so far in the past and fading so rapidly that we can no longer really claim one.
Completely agree, seems like ancient history at this point. Never really got to take advantage of the amazing facilities while they were still new.
Oof…………
Why don’t you cover women’s basketball?
The cold truth is that basketball, outside of the 1940s and 50s and Sutton’s run in the 90s-early 2000s, is not really a “storied” program. In fact, for most of its history, OSU has been very mediocre in basketball. I think it is important for fans to know, though, that OSU is not the brand name (in basketball) that most of us think it is. Now, none of that excuses the poor play of the last several years, but most fans probably don’t want to face reality about basketball.
Team can’t shoot and can’t play defense. That’s an incredibly terrible combination.
Only two big 12 championships since Big 12 was formed. Sutton era was definitely much better than what we are seeing now but we weren’t exactly national championship caliber most of the time.
That’s what I’ve been saying. They deserve a 5 thoughts article.
Paying a coach 3 million a year for this? This program is going nowhere. Needs changing from the top down. Overpaid coached for under achieving programs.
OSU basketball is the last pile of Holder’s that needs addressing. The combination of Holder’s incompetence coupled with his egomaniac self dug a massive hole for OSU basketball!
If there is any wonder to Holder’s stupidity, understand before his retirement as athletic director in 2021, Holder gave Boynton a nice contract extension inclusive of a heavy buyout clause. How stupid can one be, as anyone who truly knows and understands basketball, can clearly see, Boynton may be a nice guy, but he is a horrendous basketball coach!
This can only be explained one of two ways; incomprehensible stupidity or intentional malfeasance on Holder’s part.
The bottomline to Holder, he left a massive pile of on his replacement’s doorstep to clean up! I have no doubt this will be addressed in the best possible manner, with the result being, bright days are on the horizon for OSU basketball!!!
The issue is is blatantly obvious. The NCAA sanctions did exactly what they are meant to do. Set a program back decades to compensate for prior cheating.
This year was yet another year with sanctions on the program. We had one less scholarship this year than every other team in the B12. We were banned from the post season last year. Next year will be our first year free of sanctions. It will take 4 more years to finally have a complete program of Frosh, Soph, Jr, and Sr recruits that were not recruited under sanctions.
Those lost recruits not only leave us short that possible diamond in the rough, but it also limits the star power of the recruits we do get. No good player wants to play for a program in decline losing players due to sanctions.
It’s not rocket science. Sure, we could get lucky and get a Cade Cunningham, but generally we are getting coal in our stocking every year.
As for B12 championships, I have one word. Kansas. Everyone has had that problem. Didn’t Kansas win like the last 15 championships, with Baylor eking out one.
Sports Illustrated also did a hit piece that hurt us. Now they are out of business. We are not. We still have a chance this year but in any case, I hope we begin the recovery next year with some more success.
