OSU suffers its worst defeat of the season after the Cowboys had been trending up.
In other OSU-related news, the Cowboy golf team closed the gap on host Florida with a second round 10-under score of 270. The Pokes go into tomorrow’s round two strokes off the lead and looking for their third straight tournament win.
The photo accompanying this story really captures the body language of Chi Chi Avery for the entire game.
I was at this game (unfortunately), and Avery would miss a shot and then his entire body would just slump and he’d get behind on defense. There was one timeout Lutz called where he slowly walked up to Avery and he just knew Lutz was about to tear him a new one. I’m over his inconsistent effort and attitude.
The truth of the matter is that we do not have any cosistent scorerers or shooters. We are also undersized and its going to show its ugly head from game to game. I am actually surprised that we have won as many games as we have, a credit to Lutz but he has his work cut out foe himself.
Well the real truth of the matter is Lutz complains about the defense as though his defense is any good. If you look at our stats, in most defensive categories, his defense ranks outside the top 250 in the three major defensive stats of field goal percentage defense, 3 pt percentage defense and scoring defense. This guy just isnt the guy.
Who isn’t the guy? Lutz? I don’t know how anything can be judged about him based on this season. Mike Holder culminated his piledriver of the program by extending Boynton and got us in this garbage spot. Lutz didn’t really have a lot of time to get a team together, just a bunch of average guys off the scrap pile. Let the guy get a toe hold at least. He might be a bust, but way too early to say anything other than he’s not a miracle worker.
Unfortunately he’s the only player on the roster who can create his own shot. He’s obviously below average on the defensive end, but in reality so is the rest of our team, with a few exceptions. If I was Lutz, I would have made Avery the focal point of the offense, played him as many minutes as possible, and hope that the more he scored the harder he’d try on defense. Instead, Lutz barely plays Avery half of the game.
He didn’t have a lot of time because Chad drug his feet hiring him with about 10 of us in here SCREAMING that it needed to happen quick. Portal had been open for at least a day or two before Chad pulled the trigger and hired Lutz.
Hey champ,
Sorry Chad didn’t see your messages. He was probably busy reading what the guys over on Reddit had to say or checking out the comment section on YouTube.
At any rate, I just don’t think Lutz can be judged too much off this year.
Not calling for Lutz to be gone yet and sure he didn’t get a fair shake at putting together a team for this year. However we can still judge the results of this season and well they suck, so far, and Lutz has had a hand in that there is no denying it. Also IMO as hard as it was to get talent for this years team it’s not going to be any easier next year given the landscape of college sports and besides money I’m not sure how anyone could be excited to play MBB at OSU given the current state of the program. The path forward is a very steep climb and there is nothing I have seen yet that tells me that Lutz is the one to get it done. I guess we will see.
So easy to get on here and call for Lutz’ removal. His first season isn’t even over and he barely had a chance to get a teamed together. He’s not going to be terminated and will probably be given two more years, and he’s not going to be changing his coaching philosophy to appease a player or a few disgruntled fans.
Obviously Lutz deserves time to put his vision of the program together. I do like his brutal honesty after terrible games.
You want to know my thoughts? Nothing. I have none. Thanks Mike Boynton.
Again I’m not promoting Lutz removal. I’m not qualified to make a correct decision in that regard. I will say though that talk is just that talk. It’s not that hard to do but it doesn’t change the results. Lutz says the right things. That’s a good thing but without the results it’s nothing.
Bryce Thompson doesn’t play great defense, but he can make his own shot and shoots a good percentage inside the arc. The problem is he only averages 10 shots per game.
Is this the worst loss ever, inside GIA?
By margin of defeat, yes. 38 is the worst, hopefully never to be repeated.
LeBron is bullying Gottlieb on twitter so at least we didn’t hire him.
