Five Thoughts on the Big 12's Team Transfer Portal Rankings

It’s the new era of college football and things change fast. With the advent of an open transfer portal, a team can nearly reload its roster over the course of an offseason. In fact, a few Big 12 teams, including Oklahoma State, nearly did just that. So, with the dog days of summer upon us, I thought it would be apt to take a snapshot of the how each of the conference’s schools have fared in the portal and then point out some significant takeaways. First off, here are the Big 12 teams ranked by transfer portal class ranking, as of writing, according 247Sports. I’ve included last year’s finish for reference. Below that are my takeaways. Big 12 Team National Rank Commits 4-Stars Avg 2024 Finish Texas Tech 2 21 13 89.48 8-5 Colorado 19 33 4 86.38 9-4 Houston 27 30 2 86.00 4-8 West Virginia 30 52 1 85.42 6-7 Oklahoma State 33 41 1 85.72 3-9 Utah 37 21 2 86.35 5-7 Kansas 39 27 1 85.81 5-7 UCF 43 41 2 85.46 4-8 Baylor 48 22 1 85.57 8-5 Cincinnati 49 16 1 85.93 5-7 Arizona 52 28 0 85.41 4-8 TCU 53 12 1 86.00 9-4…

Texas Tech is what Oklahoma State would’ve been if the NIL/Transfer Portal era had been around when T Boone Pickens came on the scene.

So……our portal rank isn’t much better than our normal recruiting class rankings?

College football is dying.

I don’t have enough time or interest to keep up with all the changes every single year. If they don’t make big changes I think CFB is in big trouble. I’d rather watch the NFL.
