For Mike Gundy, the Bill Came Due but it's Likely Not as Expensive as it Seems

On Chuba, Gundy and a wild Monday afternoon.

I genuinely think porter means well, but with power and money comes distance and insulation. When the only people who legitimately have your ear are the people who won’t tell you no, that’s not great. It becomes quite fun to toy with your power, and of late it seems as if porter has very much enjoyed toying with his power. It seems as if he has become more obstinate with age and less empathetic along the way. In turn, he has lost the capital he built up over the years from people who matter far more than me.

This might be true and I’m open to that being the case.

Good observations Kyle and thank goodness Hargis weighed in today. Things were getting ready to get real ugly real quick. Those 9 players or so in the portal was getting ready to be much more. Hopefully Gundy got a dose of reality today instead of the conspiracy based lies spewed by OAN. If what Justice Hill didn’t get your attention a little bit today, it should have.

Change “porter” to “Gundy” and I agree with every word.

Very shallow writing. How does Gundy treat blacks? How about his staff? The administration? What areas need to be fixed? Do they make them better men? What about hiring practices compared to other schools? What criticisms do the players have? Who cares Gundy wears an OAN shirt. Does he agree with everything on OAN, anything on OAN? What does he think of BLM? We have no idea. Society is a bit of powder keg right now and for KB to throw matches on it, trying to incite something, even when it is resolved is despicable to me. What has this site become?

For once I agree with PFB’s view on a MG controversy. This is pretty brainless on the part of Gundy. You cannot in anyway say it was “only a T shirt”. Gundy in his position not only needs to do the right thing in relation to race issues/views he has to be seen to be doing it as well. At his level perception is everything. No matter what sort of TV you watch (and he has every right to watch whatever he wants to), you cannot be seen to be a fan (why would you otherwise wear a T shirt of a TV network? who does that?!) of what most of his players (current, former and future ) would disagree with and see as down right offensive to them. I agree with porter, the power he has had seems to have corrupted MG’s brain and he possibly only has “Yes men” around him who does not challenge him on his views.
I hope this is a big wake up call for MG. As a fan, I am really disappointed in Mike Gundy.

It was a poor choice by Gundy, and he has shown lately that his ability to comprehend social awareness is very small. It was pretty obvious that wearing something like that was completely distasteful in a time like this. But I do find one over-glaring, and almost comical, hypocrisy in this whole situation:

Everyone slamming Gundy for wearing what could be a “racist t-shirt” are all in support of voting in a man who literally spouts blatantly racist comments every time he gets in front of the mic. The situation going on with Trump and Biden right now would be like a high school principle getting on to Trump for punching a fellow student, while Biden is in the background pummeling the kid to a pulp with no reparations.

Stop painting an ugly picture of Gundy. He’s most likely blinded of the sensitivity. People are not as tough as they once were. He’s just going to have to accept that.

Gundy was wrong, he needs to change or risk losing his team.

Why is it KP that you MUST constantly bag on Mike. If Chuba goes to his coach first ( or if several went) do you really think this is even a thing. That’s where Mikes statement about social media rings ever so true now, those in that field tirelessly work to manipulate and control thought and with great effect and generally NOT for the overall good of this country.

Bagging on the 50 something year old man making 5 million to be a leader makes more sense than bagging on a 20 year old player.

Do you think the changes the players want are to the detriment of the country?

Great article and I think it articulates the truth very well. Gundy wanted to see how far he could go and he got called out. Hopefully this reigns him in.

This is what I think of every time someone makes a point that speaks to the state of things needing to go back to normal.

What PFB did was useful. These problems should stay illuminated, not be extinguished. There is real momentum for change and it needs to be seized. Too many white people have let it go over the years and that needs to stop. I applaud PFB for continued criticism and hope true change comes of this.

Typical cancel culture…if someone has a different view point, you want them fired…every must conform to the liberal garbage.

All of the finger pointing and blaming of others needs to stop. Doing so will just further entrench believes and make racial tensions worse. Conversations need to be had. That’s how progress is made. It looks like that happened once Gundy and Chuba were able to talk. Hopefully Gundy listens and learns from the situation. The same goes for the players who should address the problem in person first before going to social media.

This is so refreshing to finally see somebody talk about the real issue here and with Gundy, in general, lately - perception! Poor perception on these issues obviously affects current and former players but it can (and still might) affect recruits. Can he watch whatever news network he wants and own their shirt? Of course he can. But is it wise to vocally and visually support said news network, that has a track record of delegitimizing black issues, for the whole world and his team with mostly black athletes to see? Especially right now? No, it isn’t! It’s called “reading the room” and Gundy is terrible at it.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize this isn’t just about a shirt! The people who keep saying that either lack basic critical thinking skills or they are being willfully dense. While I do think Twitter is not the ideal space for airing grievances like this, it might ultimately be the best thing that could’ve happened in this particular situation.

It’s not accurate to say that Gundy believes that his crap don’t stink. He actually believes that it stinks wonderfully and better than anyone else’s. He has often touted himself as the master marketer and pats himself on the back for his oh so clever marketing bringing great value to the program and the university. And while he’s never truly been at the level he thinks, he has done some really really good things. However, he recently had a day when he rolled out of bed and chose to go out in public wearing an OAN shirt rather than an OSU shirt. It was his choice on who to rep that day. For $5MM a year he should wear orange every day and night. Master marketer, indeed.

You people that think it is wrong for a man to wear a t-shirt fishing that has a news logo on it is racist in some sort of sick twisted way is the complete definition of moronic. You people are tearing this country apart so fast and this is just the tip of the iceberg with social media. Porter would never go to the offense of a white guy that is being brow beat for let’s just say wearing a t-shirt weather he thinks it’s right or wrong because his job like most of all white people in the entertainment or sports world will be over and he knows it. You see social media has everybody handcuffed and you eventually will get brainwashed if you hear it enough times. Wake up people or buckle up and prepare for the worst.

I’ve loved watching both of these men do their thing on Saturdays, so I hate that there is conflict.
I like to think better of the Cowboy Culture… but here we are and I still love both of these guys and I think something beautiful can happen here. I think they can work together for a better day.

So instead of vilifying either of them, I would love to see some thoughts from everyone else on what could improve the Cowboy Culture.

I would love to see MG meet up with Chuba at least once a week to not discuss anything football related.
No cameras, no recordings. Be men and talk about issues and grow.

I think a Cowboy Culture that embraces different perspectives without attacking the character of people within the culture would be incredible.

I think the ability to love someone you disagree with is a greater test of
Manhood than football acumen.

I’m rooting for both of these guys to grow up and together.
