Former Oklahoma State Pitcher Kelly Maxwell Reportedly Transferring to Oklahoma

Maxwell makes the Bedlam flip.

She is now the Kevin Durant of college softball.

Unfortunately, I’ll remember her for pitching one off her hip during a clutch situation against OU.

Such a shame. She goes from being one of the all-time Cowgirl greats to Benedict Arnold. She’s nothing to OSU now. Yeah, she might win a title next year, but she’s not going to be the ace–she’ll be only one amongst several pitchers who are as good or better.

Maybe a combination of wanting to win it all, along with money talks and people walk. College athletes are no longer amateurs. Thanks again to Curt Flood and George Steinbrenner ruining all of sports.

Don’t disparage Curt Flood like that. He gave up his career in an effort to change how badly the greedy baseball owners were treating MLB players. And that all went down before George had even bought the Yankees. So assign the blame correctly. The MLB owners, in their hubris, refused to even negotiate with the players in good faith. They thought the reserve clause was ironclad and the courts would continue to confirm that. They were wrong and it ended up costing them hugely. The SEC is who ruined college sports.

I use to think she was a tremendous competitor.

Not surprised. It is was it is. I wish her well until Bedlam starts.

I agree with everything except the last sentence.

How did the SEC ruin college sports?!?!

If she pitches against us, I hope we hammer her unmercifully!

Tough one for Cowboy fans here. Unfortunately, I think this situation will increase once these two are in separate Conf’s. The SEC dominates the college landscape in 3 sports…….softball is one of em. Obviously as a Sooner fan, I love it. I won’t say anything further because I’m not here to troll anybody. I will say that this is why I hate the portal. People can blame NIL and trash it for killing their love of college athletics……but Maxwell wouldn’t be leaving Stillwater if she had to sit out a year. You can argue that NIL is to blame on some level for her ending up in Norman. But the portal is what got her out out of Stilly. Not NIL or OU.

The one place you do not transfer to. Gross.

If you can’t beat them, join them.

Right up the middle every time

Will have a couple chances to beat her next year and hopefully we will. But let’s face it, after that it’s going to take me maybe half a second to forget who she ever was.

KetchupSicle - In my opinion, realignment and chasing every last penny is what ruined college sports. The SEC has been the main driver of those two things. They’ve taken this aggressive approach like they are Amazon trying to wipe out the competition. I don’t like what Amazon and Home Depot, etc. have done to the retail industry, but at least I understand it. It’s business. The SEC on the other hand, is destroying their “industry” for their own self interests. I’m sure in both the short and long term, the SEC will be more than fine. I worry about how long the rest of the country will maintain interest in college sports. Without some kind of commissioner who looks out for the best interests of the overall game like the pros have, this isn’t going to change or get better. College sports seem to want to function like the pro leagues do, but without the guardrails the pros have to level the playing field.

Let’s ROCK.HER.WORLD.

He misspelled the $EC. Started paying players long before the NIL.

I seriously doubt there’$ a lot of NIL dough for softball players.

Paying players has been going on FOR A LONG TIME. NIL is like the legalization of marijuana. Its just done above board now. So thats nothing new. Realignment: I can see that perspective. I wont argue if someone from a “have not” feels like its soured their love of college football. I personally think realignment has just created a wider, more visible gap between the “haves” and “have nots”. The College Football world really only had about 10 teams that could actually win the national title once the season began. Now, with realignment creating a “rich get richer” type separation and the playoffs being expanded, its eliminated any chance for a Cinderella. Therefore, the pool is now about 4-6 teams deep every year. You blaming the SEC as the main driver is off-base. The SEC has been the dominant league for 20 years. The money they put into their programs is unmatched. Its also across the board. The facillities in each sport are bigtime. The fan support is unmatched. We all know what football is like down there, but go watch baseball,. Softball. Basketball is similar to other conferences in that its popularity is shrinking. The biggest NIL players right now are Oregon and Miami. A&M too. But it aint just the SEC paying players.

As for the demise of the college football game or popularity…that isnt happening. Football is the most popular sport, across the board. The NFL is king and always will be. College football has a very, very high level product and its not going away, by any stretch. Ever. The programs and/or fansbases that could see their love for the game go away are, to put it blunty…Nobody’s. Im not being a troll or trying to talk down to anyone, but the new-look SEC will be more popular than ever. Why? Because it added two massive brands in OU/TX. The college football playoff will garner MASSIVE ratings. The casual fan isnt turning on the TV in primetime to watch a Arizona-OSU game. Thats just fact.
