Switzer didnt “let” Aikman get away. Switzer facilitated the move and couldnt have helped more than he did. OU’s roster was better suited for what Holieway did and Aikman was better off somewhere else. Aikman was a Cali kid anyway, so it was as mutual a separation as you could get

Switzer had no ambition to guy to a passing offense. Troy was never going to run the wishbone.

Let me educate you real quick. At the time of Aikman being at OU, the NCAA was working under the 95 scholarship limit. Its now at 85. Those 10 scholarships werent enough to allow Switnzer to stockpile players like when he got to OU.

Will Riley have enough 5 stars to win a natty at USC? No. He will not win a Nat Title at USC. I think he makes a playoff while hes there. But not text year. Hes going to win 9 or more games next year though. You referenced how many 5 stars he used last year. Dude, there arent many 5 stars floating around on rosters in college football outside of the SEC. So OU not winning the Conf or Nat title isnt a shocker. The 2021 season was a major disappointment in Norman, but knowing now what we do about what Riley had going on…its not a shock

Next year regular season, I think 8-4 at worst and 11-1 at best. I think playing for the Big 12 Title is a realistic thing. 8-4 would be disappointing. Anything better than that, I think OU fans will be ok with. Not the idiots, but the honest fans like myself. I think OU loses some more depth after this Spring with some defections. But I think Brent’s approach and foundation he will build is going to be more sustainable in the long run as opposed to how Lincoln went about his business. I think the moronic fans think OU will be playing for and winning a national title within 2 years. Those people are nuts. I think people outside of Norman (a bunch on this site) think OU is going to forget how to play football all of a sudden. Those people are nuts too. Brent has come in and said and done all the right things. But…you gotta win. So we shall see. I think OU going into the SEC with Brent will be better off than if we were going into the SEC with LIncoln.
Since Lincoln didn’t want to go to the sec.
If your qb comes in a plays ok, the offense should be fine. It’s hard to see the defense being better.

Everything could be better. There was a lot of talent on the defensive side. Talent is a dirty word. OU could be better defensively. OSU and Baylor werent loaded with more NFL talent defensively than OU. But they played harder. Tougher. More Physical. If OSU and Baylor did it in 21…OU could in 22. I fully expect OU to be improved in those 3 aspects
Riley’s young. He could easily win a nat at USC. Especially because Saban is old, but even if he weren’t. It’s hard to win a title, but a great offensive mind at a blueblood program with lots of local talent can certainly do it.
While you would think they were playing hard. They want to go to the nfl.
