OSU picks up another TE via the portal.

Means we’re going to start throwing to them a lot more then?

I’ve been waiting for this for 40 years

All having a good, effective tight end passing game ever does is win football games.

How many times have we been torched by TEs? I have been wanting a more robust TE passing scheme for years.

Good question. Does anyone know if Meacham or his staff has any history of TE use for advancing the ball as opposed to just being an extra blocker?

TBH having good TE’s of our own and using them as such doesn’t solve the problem you are alluding to. Just saying.

I think the issue has been weak O-line play. We’ve needed an extra blocker more than an extra target.

Did you watch Brandon Pettigrew play….?

Oh I know why we got torched by TEs because our linebackers were not on point but I’m alluding to is good TE play can be effective.

6 tight ends?
The new offense will include short yardage passing to tight ends? Bring in 6 in order to find 2 who will start? And the rest backups for injuries???
I remember the tight end from OU who we could not stop, he was big and had hands like glue. He is in the NFL. His brother was one of our QBs and he never played, so he transferred. Can’t recall their names.

Kolar. Charlie and John.

Edit: Can’t tell whatever happened to John. Doesn’t look like much of anything after OSU. Grad transferred to Iowa State, no stats.

He does…supposedly, but he ain’t the HC so could get overruled like previous O-coordinator, which some of you don’t wanna believe.

Should’ve thrown to him more. 112 total catches in 4 seasons. Jelani Woods was a huge mismatch in the red zone, 29 receptions in three seasons w/ us, 44 with UVA his last season. But we’re gonna use the excuse of poor O-line play is the reason? :sob: :joy:

Charlie Kolar is the NFL, but not getting a lot of balls thrown his way, they (Ravens) got Mark Andrews, but I think Kolar will get more looks this season. John was overrated, a 4-star prospect out of HS…

Charlie Kolar was from Norman, not OU and went to Iowa St. although the Sooners have had plenty of TEs who have gashed us over the years….

In 2008 Pettigrew caught 42 passes. Remember Zac was busy throwing to Dez Bryant that year.

Wasn’t disputing that. 42 receptions by an oSu TE is probably the most ever by one of our TEs, unless John Chesley got more when Jimmy Johnson was HC. But I kinda doubt it cause he loved running the ball in those days.

42 receptions by a tight end is good. That’s almost 4 catches a game. Unless the guy is like an all-timer and your best receiver, I think that’s kinda high.
