He might not be a perennial backup, but he’s probably not going to start for Ole Miss. Maybe he will get some tutelage under Kiffin and go play somewhere else. I could see him fighting for the job in a few years if the other kid goes pro. I don’t give him a 0% chance. No one is a 0% chance. Injuries happen. People buckle down and prove themselves. Walk-ons like Baker Mayfield can become Heisman winners.
I don’t think he “leveraged” anything as much as he “salvaged” something. I think Gundy called Rangel and Smith in after the spring game and said they’d been eliminated from contention to start and that they could stay if they wanted, but they were probably going to get less NIL money because they can’t afford to pay a QB3. I think they probably both found the best NIL deals they could elsewhere. I don’t think they had a Brinks truck backed up to their dorms or anything, but they probably found places where they could get more money on the bench than they could here. Then Gundy went out and found an affordable QB3.
Gundy’s had what? Three QBs drafted? Two of them had a chance to start. Once they’re in the league and getting coaching from pro coaches for a few years, can’t really blame their “development” in college. Anyway, that’s not too shabby.
If you insist of wearing orange colored glasses, then we can’t have a rational discussion.
Gundy has had 3 QBs drafted in 21 years. The last one was Rudolph in 2014.
Kiffin has had 2 QBs drafted in the last 3 years.
I’m not even trying to trash Gundy. I’m simply arguing two points.
In the current college landscape, being a QB coached by Kiffin is greater than being a QB coached at OSU. It’s more prestigious, there’s a better likelihood of being drafted (per recent data), and there’s a bigger NIL pool.
Signing a guy with 4 years of eligibility to the most important position is not insignificant. This isn’t the NFL where you sign a guy for camp knowing you’ll cut him or move him to the practice squad. This is committing a roster spot and scholarship for presumably 4 years that you cannot use on another transfer or HS player. In the SEC there are no wasted scholarships - especially at QB.
If you want to create the narrative that he was told he wouldn’t start and therefore decided to leave and that it’s an indication he actually isn’t a good player and he was fortunate to “salvage” his career by going to Ole Miss, then this conversation is over because you’re doing a lot of mental gymnastics to preserve your belief that OSU is the greatest program on Earth, then we just can’t even have a real conversation.
Literally nothing you said about me is accurate. I think it’s obvious he was told he wasn’t going to start. Why would two QBs leave right after the spring game?
Don’t do the “hey champ” thing. It derails the conversation and hurts your credibility.
Let’s assume you are correct - Smith was 3rd or 4th on the depth chart after spring and this prompted him to hit the portal. I agree that’s likely, but not known. However, assuming it’s true, broadly there are three possibilities:
Henjy & Flores are really, really good, Smith is a notch below right now, and Gundy assessed correctly.
Henjy & Flores are fine, Smith is worse, and Gundy assessed correctly.
Smith & Rangel are the best of the bunch and Gundy was wrong.
You’ve settled on assuming the above narrative is true, and then concluding that some variation of 2 must also be true.
I’m merely suggesting there are a wider range of possibilities than you’re considering and another one that’s plausible is either 1 or 3 above + Ole Miss signing Smith is evidence that he’s good and has promise.
Did she not file an abuse order against him ?
And it turned out to be false. ? Don’t guess it matters when it’s a false report. I wouldn’t think google would keep up with who it was
Yea that is lost on just about everyone. I heard a tape a couple of years ago where that girlfriend admitted to lying about getting abused while they were at OSU. Thankfully Tyreek and her have split. Best thing that could have happened to him. She was very toxic the best I could tell.
No you weren’t wrong. Tyreek and his OSU girfriend stayed together for some number of years after leaving Stillwater. There was even more drama later, son’s broken arm et al. They split sometime after and now he is married to the girl @GoPokesGo mentioned, I think. I saw them on some TV show and she seemed smart and very good for him. This was a year or so ago.
I vaguely remember the broken arm deal. Wasn’t it supposedly child abuse that was looked at on Tyreek ? Anyway good move to shove her out the door , she’s probably getting a large child support check
Yea except for that traffic stop debacle I haven’t seen or heard anything about Hill for about a year or so. I don’t actively follow Hill and really don’t care about him or any professional athlete for that matter. I’m also one who tends to pass judgement on someone who is actually convicted of something, I know that Hill did plead out in the case at OSU but more came out about it later telling me that he was just trying to put things behind him. Now I’m not trying to defend him, You’re welcome to your opinion. Where there is smoke there is likely fire and there is smoke. It’s just my standard for calling someone I don’t know a criminal to actually be convicted of a crime before I do so.
I mean… Ray Rice never got convicted of anything. Joe Mixon got wrist slapped. Powerful men don’t face the same justice as everyone else and the women have financial reasons to protect them. They can’t earn that child support $$$ in jail. You see that trail of accusations that just seem to go away follow them forever.
I didn’t follow Ray Rice so not familiar with that case. Mixon plead guilty to hitting a women so In my book he shouldn’t be playing football regardless of the punishment handed to him. Again I’m not a fan and not trying to defend Hill. Just stating the facts that I am aware of. If you want to conclude something, develop an opinion, etc, from the facts you know go right ahead. It’s a free country, I think.
I saw the tape of the traffic stop on Hill where’ they drug him out kid the car and cuffed him. He was an asz then. Ran through a stop sign or a place they had roped off and just cracked the window until they unlocked it.
Saw a clip later on where they dismissed the charges Had it been one of us we would jhave payed a hefty fine
Yes saw the tape too. He sped through a construction zone although is wasn’t hugely over the speed limit. He was very disrespectful to the police, as you said just cracking the window to give them his license. However there is no law that says you have to respect the police. The police in that case IMO were just thugs and shouldn’t even be cops. They should have taken his license wrote him up and sent him on his way. But instead they had to show Hill who is boss by dragging him out of the car and cuffing him. Now again I’m not a Hill lover, he was a total ass with the cops. Then again everyone was an ass in that situation.
Oh I get what you’re saying, cops that want to show who’s the king just really piss me off , but not just Hill but other videos of people showing how much you can get by with when you’re stopped is being as ass. Bad cops I can do without , what would we do without the good ones NBA and NFL men get into cop messes because they think they’re important
