I could not recommend The Colony any more. When I was in Tulsa, I lived around the corner and spent many a night there.
I know it’s fun to poke at them, but I often wonder how many people who criticize Hanson have actually listened to anything they’ve made other than mmmBop. They’ve continued to make music since then and probably have the tightest harmonies out there on top of producing some really good music in the “blue eyed soul” category.
Hmmm…member of Hanson possibly confirmed…
Hahaha, hardly… Just live in Tulsa, have a wife who is a fan, and went to a concert of theirs which I enjoyed throughly.
Curious, but have you listened to them beyond mmmBop?
I’ll be the honest one here. I’ve had more mmmbop beers than new Hanson songs on in my stereo.
Not a bad beer at all.
The OP mentioned greatest musicians, not necessarily most successful. Certainly JJ Cale, Leon, and Vince Gill are elite musicians. Not born in OK but we can claim him, Roy Clark is also an extraordinary musician.
No, Taylor, I haven’t. Tell me more.
I would say they’re thoroughly mediocre. Not great but they aren’t awful. And they’ve been entertaining since they were kinda so they’re obviously they can put on a show.
Fullbright is very talented, I’ve seen him go from guitar to the piano and harmonica all in one set and absolutely crush them all!
Shared in another thread but wanted to share here cause there really shouldn’t be any question… Other than Reba
Chris Gaines…?
I remember hearing that album years ago and thought it was decent. According to the some TV bio I saw recently it’s Trisha’s favorite album of his.
Bet there’s a bit of role playing…
“I’ll be the rock star and you be the groupie!”
Have you heard the backstory on that one? Something about that album being an accompanying score to a movie(?) that fell through after the album bombed. I’m probably misremembering the whole thing but it was very role play-esque
I honestly thought that Garth had somewhat of a crisis around making it…? Like some personal issues or something.
I can’t help but imagine that someone veering WAAAAYYYY off the tracks and making a “concept” album like that had to be experiencing some personal life issues.
I don’t know. I mean, Beatles and David Bowie have done concept albums. Garth has always been a little ahead of the curve for country.
Or you could be right and it’s some weird midlife crisis thing.
Every single David Bowie album was a concept album, though.
Kristen Chenoweth
The Flaming Lips
Woody Guthrie
Vince Gill
Ronnie Dunn
Carrie Underwood
All favorites.
WHAAT? Did not know this…
Edit: are you sure, his bio says South Africa and New York?
